What do you think of Evangeline?

This is our front runner for a girl, and I'm starting to second guess it because DH's family is full of common names like Jessica, Emily, Sarah, etc. I know if we like it we shouldn't care but I'm just wondering what you guys think about it? Strangers give the best opinions!

I think Evangeline is lovely! The only time I've heard it used is actress Evangeline Lilly so no bad associations or any expectations really with the name. Also you can get some nice NNs out of it.

I think it's very pretty. It's such a long name that I think people will often call her by a nn, probably Eve or Evie.

Your kids names don't have to match your husbands family names or your's either (as long as the name you are using is a legit name and spelled correctly). My husband comes from a HUGE family (all with names that are in the top 100 on the SSA list), and I come from (what I consider) an average sized family, all with names that are in the top 100. Our daughter has a name in the 600+ on the SSA List. When she was born and we announced her name, some people were like "huh?" but that is just because it is a name that isn't heard often, and they are all used to hearing more common names in the family. Now that they are used to it, they don't give it a second thought.

I think that Evangeline is a gorgeous name, and it is common enough that it isn't so "out there".

It's a lovely name but too long for me to pair with my 3-syllable last name. If you have a short last name, I think it would work best. All that aside, my best friend LOVES this name, so she'd tell you to use it.

It's a mouthful for me but I prefer short and sweet. I would consider the nicknames and make sure you like them because this name will likely be shortened by everyone.

It's my first daughter's middle name (she's 2.5). I get a lot of blank stares when I say her middle name. It's not a name a lot of people are familiar with, it turns out. However, I really like it and its meaning to us as Christians.

^^This. It's a pretty name but I personally wouldn't use it--- I would think about nicknames because I doubt every time someone calls her they will say "Evangeline"
