Being induced at 39 weeks because of VCI - what should I expect from being induced?

I went to my regular weekly OB check/NST test.  I was hooked to the NST machine for over an hour but LO finally woke up and cooperated.  She even showed off with hiccups.  However, my OB doesn't want to take any chances with my Velamentous cord insertion and scheduled to have me induced.  I'm currently 2.5 cm dilated and my OB expects me to progress further by my induction date.  As a FTM I have no idea of what to expect other than what was discussed at my child birth prep classes about induction.  Time to research and ask follow up questions for my last two weekly appointments!

Just wanted to share and wondered if anyone had any experience in what to expect when being induced. (Experiences, stories, advice, etc.)

  • Unfortunately, like almost every other aspect of pregnancy it seems to be different for every woman and with each child.

My water broke on its own and I had to go on a pitocin drip.  I did not dilate or efface very well for about 12 hours.  I got my epidural, kicked everyone out of the room, took a nap, and woke up to my daughter crowning.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.
