Books and reading have been an absolute essential for me all my life, so there are a few books that I have already added to the LO's nursery shelves, are there any such books that you have particular positive association with and would add to your nursery? Here are the top 2 of my selection: 1. The Little Prince by Antoine de saint 2. The Crescent Moon by Rabindranath Tagore.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is my favorite. My son absolutely loves Caroline Jayne Church's books and their illustrations. We have a growing collection of her cute baby/toddler friendly books. Here's a pic of one of our favorites.
Everything Dr. Seuss for early reading and then Roald Dahl and Harry Potter for when they're older. As far as when they're very little, Fables, by Arnold Lobel was one of my faves. The illustrations from that version of Fables have stayed in my head my whole life! Goodnight Moon and Where the Wild Things Are are of course, classics. The Monster at the End of This Book was another favorite in my household as a kid. So many good ones! It's hard to narrow them down!
We're a big fan of board books right now so DD1 can flip through on her own. She loves Sandra Boynton... The Going to Bed Book is part of our nighttime routine. Also a big fan of Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann and Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell, as well as shorter Dr. Seuss (and Dr. Seuss approved) books like Are You My Mother and Mr. Brown Can Moo. We don't read many classics yet... they tend to be too long for her attention span.
All of baby nose to toes Usborne lift the flap and petting books (usborne is an MLM company so you might have friends who sell for them) Chicka chicka boom boom Good night moon (great for bedtime routine) Llama llama red pajama.
I have two more I can't remember the titles for. I'll edit later with them.
My daughter (2 in February) is obsessed with the If You Give a Mouse A Cookie Series. It was my favorite growing up and has lots going on in the pictures, so more to talk about than just reading. We bought the collection from Sam's last year.
We LOVE Nancy Tillman and we have On The Night you were Born for new baby, Where ever you are my love will find you (reminds me of my 2 yr old), and I'd know you anywhere my love (reminds me of my 5 yr old) they are their favorite books along with You are my I Love You by Maryann Cusimano Love
Chicka chicka boom boom was one of my favorite books. And the Henry and Mudge series. I borrowed them from the library all the time. I started ordering a few here and there to stockpile.
Oh! And this wonderful book called But no elephants. Loooved that book as a child!!
A few favorites in our house are Goldilocks and the 3 dinosaurs, the book with no pictures, the day the crayons quit, and dragons love tacos. I like reading them as much as my kids like listening to them!
I have bought board books for baby so far. As an Elementary Teacher I have probably close to 400-500 children's books and chapter book series, for when he gets a little older. I've bought a few traditional stories that were made into board book format such as; Courduroy, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Goodnight Moon, and a few other titles.
Adding to my earlier list: From Head To Toe by Eric Carle for older kids (my 18 mo old's love it) Pout Pout Fish ABCs 123 Colors by Bright Baby (or anything like that with lots of easily identifiable images)
Other essentials- the spot series, mo willems, Beatrix potter, aa Milne, Harry by the sea, Maurice Sendak, Rosie revere engineer, the Olivia series, and on and on...
