To get a Double Stroller or not?

My son is 4 and with a new baby coming I was thinking if I should get a double stroller. The standing Graco is my top choice because it gives my son the option to also sit. Do other moms of two+ think it is a must to buy or not really?

Re: To get a Double Stroller or not?

  • Not a mom of two yet but everyone I have talked to has said to wait till baby is born and see if your older child is still interested in the stroller or not. So we are waiting for now at least.

  • I'm still undecided. DD will be about 20 months when the baby gets here but by the time it's decent enough outside to take the baby out she will be almost two. Still too young to walk by herself (or as fast as I would be walking) so I think we will end up getting one probably.

  • I'm in the same boat. DD will be 2.5 when DS is born, so she'll be 3 in June. She is very independent but I still like the option of putting her in a stoller. I know I'll baby wear DS a lot too.
I'm looking at the Britax B-Ready and Baby Jogger City Select. They both come as single strollers with the option to add a second seat or glider board. Plus they both have large baskets, are tandems, and don't feel too enormous. I've looked at the joovey sit and stands but their canopies are too small for my super fair children
  • I'm pregnant with my fourth baby, my youngest will be 3 in a week. I actually got rid of my double stroller because I know I won't be using it. My daughter loves to walk and doesn't even use the single stroller we have. The only good time we used the double stroller was when my third baby was born and my second was 19 months. But even then we only used it at zoos, theme parks etc. It does really depend on your eldest child.
  • I have a DD that will be 2.5 when this LO is born and I am not planning on buying a double stroller because DD is very independent and doesn't really use the single strollers we have now, except the jogger. I will be baby wearing so I have the option of a single stroller with DD if needed. We'll see how things change once baby is here and we're out and about especially in the summer but I don't want to spend the money on one and then not use it. DH (and sometimes I) uses the jogging stroller for running with DD because she likes to go fast so we'll also access that situation when we get there, if we'll be buying a double jogger or not.

I have a 4 year old and a just turned 3 year old. We had been using a tandem sit and stand but it was getting hard to push from their weight and neither wanted to be in it anyways and both are at the point where they like the freedom to walk so we put it away. So we bought a baby jogger city mini for this new baby and also bought the glider board for the back so that if one of my older ones gets tired they can go for a ride. We've already been using the stroller off and on now just to try it out and it's working really well. I'm going to guess that at 4 a double stroller is unnecessary.. Maybe look for a stroller that you can add a board or attachment to instead. I'm sooo excited to go back to single stroller, and I recommend avoiding the double stroller if you can, especially at that age.

  • My oldest is 3, my younger son 15 months. We use ours all the time. Totally need it in our case!

  • My son will be almost 2 and a half when the new baby arrives, and I am definitely not getting a double buggy! F that noise. I babywear a lot, so he can use the buggy and I'll carry the baby in a sling, but on outings where the little one must be in the buggy I'm going to get one of those buggy boards for our Bugaboo - they seem great and I think my son will be old enough for one. I'm a bit nervous every that he can step off in the middle of the street, but we'll work on it.
  • DD is 4 and hasn't been in a stroller for years. There was a brief moment I considered a sit / stand, but it just seemed like she would end up walking by me anyway. She won't even sit in the cart at the groccery store anymore.

  • I totally plan on wearing one (or both) child(ren) and using the single stroller for the other, if they aren't feeling the Tula. DS loves his Tula (baby backpack, as he likes to call it) and doesn't really like being in the stroller if he can be up on my back. We won't be investing in a double stroller, for us it's just not worth it.

  • I am not planning on getting one right away at least.  My son will be 18 months when the new baby comes.  I plan on putting him in the stroller and wearing the baby when needed.  We also have a 2-seater wagon that we can use for walks around the neighborhood or fairs or something.  It just can't really be used at the mall.

  • I guess it depends on your oldest. We are getting one. DS loves being in his stroller and he is 3. We are looking at the Graco Ready2Grow where he can be buckled now and later the stroller converts to a sit'n'stand.

  • We will be getting one once baby is older - winter months I don't see much use of a stroller except possibly the mall, but I will baby wear and use our single stroller in those cases. We have a britax b-agile right now and I plan on getting the britax double model since my friend has it and I like how its similar in style and sits side by side, handles great, etc.
  • I never did with mine. They are three years apart and never did I feel the need for both of them to be in a stroller. We did get one recently, but we're having twins, so that's a little different.

  • Our double stroller was by far one of our best baby purchases. We use ours all the time. Every so often DH thinks we can go without it and it ends up 10x more stressful.
  • I'm going to wait until after the baby is born to make the decision about the double stroller. My son is two and I plan to wear the newborn as much as possible, so I might be able to get away without one. I do wonder about bigger trips like a day at the zoo or something like that that may make it difficult without the double stroller.

Which one do you have? Would you recommend it for babies that are 22 months apart? I'll be baby wearing alot but need to narrow down my choices since we take lots of family walks and I want to get a double stroller. Need one under $250 though!

  • I have the same question for those who do already have double strollers, which do you prefer or which were you really happy with? Our two smallest will be 16 months apart so we definately need the stroller still. We went to BRU and tried them out but all of them seemed too bulky or heavy and I don't want to struggle taking it in/out of the car etc every time
  • I got a graco double stroller for when I had my second son my oldest was a month shy of turning 3.... I loved the room to help carry stuff but honestly we hardly used it.. To big and bulk for the zoo, malls, fair etc... I usually just would baby wear the newborn and used the single stroller IF We were planning on doing a ton of walking but when so usually someone was with me and would put my 3 yr old on their shoulders or something.. Maybe a sit and stand would have been used more but idk I have the same age gap this time and will just use he single stroller
  • We use our single stroller a lot. DD will be 2 in February so I'm thinking we will get a double. I'm looking at the britax and BOB. Any suggestions?

We have the Graco Ready2Go click connect. I think you can get it for around $220. I personally think it's worth it, even for kids almost 2 years apart. And especially if you'd use it a lot. I baby wear too (not so much now because of baby #3) but it still came in handy even if only one of the kids were in it.
  • The one I did have was a graco double stroller. It wasn't that expensive.

I think the BOB is only pratical if you plan on doing a lot of jogging. My friends who had the double got rid of it because it was just too big and wide for everyday use. DHs cousin actually jogs a lot with hers. The Britax stollers get great reviews, that's what I'm looking at
