1st Trimester

Does anyone else have the worst aftertaste left in their mouth??

Within the last two weeks I've really begun to notice that EVERYTHING leaves the nastiest aftertaste in my mouth!! Water even leaves a nasty one too. I've tried brushing more often, even that leaves a nasty taste. I've tried chewing gum, only helps until the flavor starts to go away. Tried sucking on candy or lollipops and it only helps for the time it's in my mouth. I can't find any relief, so I'm wondering if anyone else has had this symptom, and what you did to relieve it!? It won't go away and I need some advice, if anyone has encountered this as well.

Re: Does anyone else have the worst aftertaste left in their mouth??

  • I haven't had a bad aftertaste but I have noticed that my mouth is always dry, no matter how much I drink! Pretty annoying but I'm just so happy to be pregnant that I don't care!

Hope the taste goes away for you!

  • Yup, welcome to pregnancy...unfortunately, I haven't found too much to fix it, and the more carbs I have, the worse it seems. Does it make you want to vomit? I've found iced tea has helped...going to try actual tea tonight, but yes, it's very common.

  • I've been experiencing this issue too. The only thing I have found that kind of helps is Jolly Ranchers and really strong peppermint gum. But as soon as they're gone the taste is back. Blech

  • Yes!!!! Terrible after taste and my mouth is extremely dry at all times. I thought it was just the cold I had last week, affecting my taste buds..good to know I am not the only one. I am like everyone else, hard candy and gum helps for a bit..but then it comes back. Small price to pay I suppose. :-)
  • Yes! Like very fishy. It's awful and does not help with my nausea:/
  • Yes... so gross! But I'm glad I'm not alone in this

OMG this happened to me today as i tried to eat a burger for lunch. My healthy alternative was not appealing.... 3 bites in I had to run to the bathroom and couldnt look at the burger after that.

  • I've been having this too! I did a Google search and tried a 1/4tsp baking soda with a cup of water and did a few swishes/gargles of that and it seemed to help last night.
  • I started to notice this yesterday and I'm experiencing it now as well. My mouth is dryer and the taste that is in my mouth is just plain awful! But I can still eat whatever I want. But I am welcoming everything with open arms to bring this LO home with us. I am happy I am not the only one experiencing this!

  • Aww. I feel so bad for everyone. ): But unfortunately I believe everyone has that bad taste at least once or so. Some women don't experience it that long but I only have two months left to go and I still have it. But like someone said above usually tea helps and coffee does sometimes.
Usually something with caffeine will dry your mouth out a little bit so you won't have so much saliva and you won't feel so nauseated either. Protein sometimes helps me too. It just depends I guess. Lol. But I wish you the best of luck! (:
  • Yep.  I've had this for weeks, and it's annoying.  I've tried rinsing with water, brushing, mouthwash, drinking something with flavor, you name it.  The only thing that seems to help for longer than a minute or two is chewing cinnamon gum.
  • I had this happen a few times, and lemonade helped. Go for something sour.
