Pedicure during 1st trimester

I have always heard that they are several trigger areas on a womens feet/ankles/calves that can trigger labor/a mc, with that in mind, is it normal to tell your pedicurist to skip the foot massage during a pedicure, or is it that light that it really won't hurt at all.  I could really use a good foot rub, but I definitely want to be safe.

Re: Pedicure during 1st trimester

  • I don't know of any scientific basis for a pedicure massage triggering an MC/labor. The concern for pedicures while pregnant is whether the salon is properly ventilated, and absorption of potentially harmful chemicals through your skin and nails.

  • Foot rubs are good for you
  • I haven't read any papers on it, so this is strictly my opinion.  Most of the hysteria over foot rubs comes from the belief in reflexology.  From what I read, those points are around the ankle.  As with most things, enter at your own risk.  I've had a light foot massage with no problem.  However, I stopped short of letting the tech get too aggressive with it.

  • I've had a pedicure. My dr said it was fine so I did. It was great.
  • I say skip the foot rub until second tri.
