12 weeks.. Where's this return of energy?

I'm about to go into my 12th week tomorrow and I swear my energy level just keeps disappearing day by day. I know they say in the 2nd trimester you're energy is supposed to return and I'm terrified that mine will not. My other half just left for some training today for a few weeks but I feel it's affecting us because he thinks of me as being so lazy now. I literally have to force myself to do things around the house and even to shower. I am getting so behind on house work and want to start getting the future baby room ready but cannot bring myself to start it. It's so so frustrating. Just wondering if I'm alone on this or how you ladies are feeling as far as energy levels and what you do to help get moving, etc.... I-)

Help!

Re: 12 weeks.. Where's this return of energy?

  • It doesn't just magically come back at the start of 2nd trimester, just generally during 2nd tri. Sorry! :( For me, it's around 14 weeks. Other women say 13 or 15 weeks. It's coming, I just don't know when for you. Soon! :)

I usually have 1 normal day to every 3 off one right now. I try to do what I can on the normal day. On the off days, I try to do either a load of laundry or a sink of dishes, sometimes both but not always. It keeps things for getting too buried.

  • Thanks @countrygrl5533 :-S I really hope sooner than later. I just want to start feeling like my old self again. Its so frustrating when you have so much you want and need to do and literally no energy to do it.
  • I would say 15-16 weeks
  • I'm just starting to get mine back and I will be 14 on Monday
  • I'm just starting week 15 and I still feel sleepy and exhausted all day. I get a few bursts of energy through the day but certainly still tired and sleeping 9-12 hours a day.
  • I feel your pain or your fatigue rather! I'm 12 weeks too and I had a few days where I thought I was almost semi- ok but the last two days I'm back on the couch and in bed, throwing up again too and generally feel like hibernating for the remainder of this pregnancy. Housework and even work has become impossible. Don't get me wrong I'm grateful even whilst throwing up but I'm wondering if I will feel human anytime soon. You are definitely not alone. I say nap as much as possible and if u can maybe get a cleaning lady or char to help around the house once a week. Even if it's just getting someone to do laundry or ironing etc or half day cleaning.
  • Thanks ladies. I guess everyone is different so I know we all won't experience things at the same time it just helps to hear I'm not alone. Like I'm the only lazy pregnant lady who feels she cannot function. I just wish my partner understood and was more understanding but instead I feel he sees me as such a bum. @Nishaat2016 thank you! Hopefully we start to feel back to normal soon. And I'm with you.. Totally grateful and happy I'm finally pregnant I just never expected it to completely wipe me out 98% of the time.
  • I'm having trouble getting my husband to understand why I'm doing nothing too. I gave it to him straight the other day and told him you married me for better or for worse so suck it up cos you're lucky I get up and go to work most days. Men will never understand the exhaustion and the physical toll this takes on our bodies. I find being open and honest with him is better than pretending I can function normally. And I don't care about my dirty house right now. Our priority right now is to take care of ourselves to provide a good environment for our babies to grow. Remind yourself that being selfish for a little time is ok because it's about your baby!
  • I was just thinking the same thing today... Where is that burst of energy? I am still sleeping so much and it takes so much work to do little things. Even going to work is so hard and I take it hour by hour. Here's to hoping we both get our energy back soon!!!!

  • Right there with you ladies. I'm 12w3d and have a 5 year old and a 2 year old, not to mention being a night nurse. My husband has zero sympathy for me, but I am whipped 90% of the time. Looking forward to a return of energy.
  • I think mine may have just started to come back because yesterday I was suddenly inspired to make turkey and mashed potatoes...like a whole Thanksgiving dinner really, and I haven't even cooked real food in like forever

  • 12 weeks. I still go to bed around 8 or 9 each night. But at least my day time energy is slowly coming back.
  • @saladflambe since I will be alone for the next two weeks I am so looking forward to not cooking! Though still trying to be healthy. But props to you. That sounds delicious and I only wish I had the energy to cook like that right now.
@nbgmom also props to you for having kids already to take care of and working nights! I work days and only have animals to take care of but I'm still exhausted and don't feel like doing any of it. I'm going to the mall today with a friend to look for maternity jeans and refused to even do my hair. So not me. :(

Yes omyword moms who have kids please tell us how you do it? My hubby isn't too bad he can see I'm wiped out with the throwing up and falling asleep everywhere, plus we had a previous miscarriage so he knows I have to take it easy but if he gives me grief I just look at him and point to my stomach and say: You, this is your spawn and your fault haha. I have stopped cooking, thank goodness for my mom and inlaws and have embraced being a sloth. But if 14 weeks doesn't come with a bag of energy and vomit free days I might start crying!
  • I am 10+5 and have far more energy than I did from 5-9 weeks but as soon as I overdo it, I'm down for the next day or 2. We did a 3 mile hike Sat which was great but then Sun I woke up feeling lousy despite tons of sleep & had very little energy all day. I can't wait to get full energy back either!
  • With my first I never got the burst of energy! I had 9 months of "African Sleeping Sickness".
