Re: TTCAL check-in 10/26
Gtky: I am a commercial interior designer and I love it! I work on offices, libraries, fitness/rec centers, worship, performing arts, etc. Sometimes I wonder if there were something else I could do that was less stressful and had better work/life balance, but I think some of the stress comes from my type A personality - I always want to do my best and am frustrated when I am so busy that doing my best on everything is hard to do.

GTKY: I'm mostly a SAHM, but I hostess at a restaurant a few nights a week. I love being home with DS and wouldn't change it for the world, but it is hard to feel like I'm not contributing financially to our family. Sometimes I feel guilty about spending money on myself or feel bad when unexpected costs come up which is why I started hostessing a few nights. I don't bring home a ton of money, but it helps with some of the guilt

3. I work as a molecular biologist at a large research university. Yes and no - I went to school to train to be a scientist but I want to be a mom. There is a lot of failure involved in research and that is hard to take over a long period of time. Especially when I fail at making babies too.

3. GTKY: What do you do for work? Are you doing what you want to be doing? I'm a Legal Assistant but also the office manager for our office. (There is a larger office in Texas). There are only 7 attorneys and myself so it's a small, relaxed environment. I've never really had specific career goals and about 6 years ago I kind of stumbled into a position in the legal field and love it. I have my bachelor's in Family Studies and Social Work but don't really plan to do anything with it. I need to get my Master's to get a job in that field (which I don't plan to get for awhile) and then I would get paid much less than I do now. So I'm happy with my current job and plan to stay!

3. I have worked in child protection for six years- 4 as an investigator, 1 as an in-home worker and 1 as an Independent Living Specialist (my current position- working with teens in foster care who are transitioning in to adulthood). 3. I'm an English as a Second Language (ESL) specialist. I work with teachers who have English learners in their classrooms. I'm mostly at the elementary level, but I also serve middle schools and help out at the high schools when I can. Sometimes I get to work with the kiddos, but I mostly work with their teachers. We just starting teaching English to some of the parents, too. It is the craziest job I've ever had! I'm all over the place traveling to multiple schools most days and taking on way more than I can handle, but I wouldn't have it any other way! It is the perfect job for me, and I work with the most amazing group of ladies. The rewards definitely outweigh the stresses!
3. I teach kindergarten at a charter school. I am in my 6th year of teaching kindergarten.
3. I work in the healthcare field with websites, love what I do and will continue, though I wish I could work from home and have a flexible schedule once we have a LO.
