First tri weight gain

I'm due June 1 so I'm sort of, kind of closing in on the end of my first trimester. With my first pregnancy, I gained close to 10 pounds in the first tri (about 40 lbs total)! I'm trying to keep it more reasonable this time (no thanks to Kraft Mac n Cheese). I'm wondering what other's current weight gain is or how much they gained in the first tri in previous pregnancies. Mostly looking for motivation! I know everyone is different but I'm always curious for a look into other people's pregnancies (nosy maybe?).

Re: First tri weight gain

  • I JUST posted about this in the symptoms thread. I'm already gaining way more weight than I want to and I'm on 7w2d. I don't know how to fix it because my relationship with food is so strange right now.

  • I lost in the first tri with both of my pregnancies. Mostly due to morning sickness/nausea. The first I couldn't stand the thought of food. Every smell made me feel worse. The second I could eat anything but it all came back up. I am also on the heavier side so my weight tends to move a lot during pregnancy.

  • I also lost during my first pregnancy. I was so sick and completely lost my appetite.
  • I'm 9w2d and I've gained .2 lbs. I feel like I eat all the time, and I'm so freaking bloated. Who knows how this will all shake out, but I was at 32 lbs with my other 2 PGs, so....
  • I'm 7w1d and I've gained two pounds. I Haven't had any MS yet so I've been lucky by being able to keep food down no prob. My appetite varies greatly though.

  • Last pregnancy I gained a couple lbs in first try, letting myself indulge, 30 overall. This time, nausea is my best friend, ugh, so I've lost a couple at 8 weeks. I'm definitely trying to keep my workout routine and not use being 'pregnant' as an excuse. Just finished an awesome cheeseburger from sonic tho, I caved :D it was the best thing I've eaten in a long time!

  • I'm not 100% sure how much weight I've gained so far - some mornings, I will wake up and be lighter, and other mornings will tell me I've gained 10 lbs already. I'm 8w4d. My MS really is just limited to the morning. I'm fine by 11am or so and then I'm ravenously hungry. I'm praying I don't gain 50 lbs this pregnancy.

Also really glad I'm not the only one craving Kraft Mac&Cheese!!
  • I'm 8w3d and due June 7th. I had gained 4 pounds, but lost 2.5 of them. I know I had a couple weeks with bloating and constipation, but some days at work I dont get a chance to eat from 6am-330pm. Very unhealthy i know. I also have very bad nauseous and MS. My body looks normal I guess and I'm living in my yoga pants, but I can feel my face getting fat and round.

Last pregnancy I was up 12 pounds after the first tri. But I was eating insanely healthy beforehand, and couldn't tolerate that type of foods anymore.

9w and so far I have fluxuated between equal and down 5. But nothing tastes good. So I am not surprised.

First time, I gained nothing in the 1st tri. Second time, I gained 8 (twins-I was on a calorie challenge). This time, so far, I'm down 7-8 lbs.

  • Down maybe 5 or so at 8 weeks. MS all day and all night. With my son I lost 15 in the first tri. Same issue
  • I was just chatting with hubs, wondering how much is too much if losing in first, I'm miserable, can't keep anything down. Did ur MS change 2nd tri @alycemciver?

I read somewhere (but as always, confirm with your doctor because the internet lies sometimes) that you shouldn't lose more than 10% of your body weight during pregnancy.
  • Thanks @sgoldberg247, cracking up as losing 5lbs not pregnant is always great but now it just doesn't seem right!

  • I started out losing weight cause I just couldn't eat and now I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight and have stayed there for now. I'm 9 weeks.
  • My doctor wasn't worried this time or last time. The baby is fine as long as your drinking enough water! Hydration is key here. Last time it resolved almost overnight at 16 weeks. I'm hoping for a little bit earlier this time around but we'll see. Seriously though, it's nothing to be worried about. Eat what you can, when you can and make sure you're getting enough fluids
  • Also make sure you don't have HG as that can be dangerous
  • Definitely not extreme like HG, just all food and smells make me nauseous, followed by bathroom, wish I could barf :((

  • No gain so far at 7 weeks 4 days. With my other two I didn't gain until around 12 weeks when I was up maybe about 2 lbs.

  • Im 9 weeks 2 days and i havent been able to out on any weight. Ive lost 20 lbs so far since ive been pregnant :/ This morning sickness/all day sickness is sucking the life out of me
  • @kaciexbbyx- that's very concerning. Have you talked to your doctor about hyperemesis gravidarum? 20lbs is a LOT to lose.

Yikes 20lbs in 9 weeks? That is a LOT of weight. Hope you're able to gain some of that back. Have you checked that you don't have a more serious condition than MS? (like PP mentioned?)

    Poor you!

  • 7 + 5 and sick since week 3 but still up 3-4# somehow? I think I am drinking more to make up for loss of appetite. I had half a carton of OJ as soon as I woke up.
  • After this weekend, I probably gained back the 2 pounds I lost so far. ;)   My morning sickness tends to manifest after I eat, so it has me thinking twice about eating too much.

  • Im only at 5 +6, but so far I have fluctuated within a 1 to 1 1/2lbs.  I am already more then I would like to be so I am hoping to not gain a TON.  With DD I only gained 19, but I dont think I am going to be that lucky with this little bean :)

  • I'm +/- 2lbs. but this is my normal day to day- so I haven't gained anything yet - at 7w3d. I definitely don't need to gain any weight this tri - still carrying extra lbs from last pregnancy - so I'm monitoring that closely. Carbs are my life though - so it's proving a bit difficult :)
  • 8w and haven't gained anything, thankfully. I keep feeling like I'm eating waaaay too much (I think it's more my perception than reality though). My goal is to gain only 20 lbs this pregnancy, so it would be great if I could gain nothing first tri.
