burning rib pain?

Ive been getting pain under my lower left rib for about a month when i sit down, i talked to my doctor and she said thats normal but she didnt tell me there was a way to help it. Which i was just dealing with, but now its when i lay down and sometimes while i stand too! I've been up the past two nights because of it, is there anyway to get the pain to go away?

Re: burning rib pain?

  • Do you feel like its a muscle, your ribs or the soft tissue just under it? Depends what's hurting. I've had growing pains that were more muscular...a rib out of place which was bones aching and then there's always the fact that so many organs are being shifted up that can cause soft tissue or deep jabbing pain...def not a doc but more clues might help us relate any similar symptoms.

Ohhhh I had this when I was pregnant with my son. It was actually his foot pushing on my liver and into my rib. It was awful and lasted until I delivered. I tried not to ever lay on my right side, since that's the side it hurt on. I also sat with my right arm raised a lot or would lean to my left when sitting, so as to lengthen that side. They actually did a liver panel on me, thinking I had something wrong with my liver because it hurt so bad. Turned out fine and it was his stinking foot. Hope yours gets better. Oh yeah and my best friend had this with her son and he actually dislodged one of her ribs. So could be many different reasons.
  • So many possibilities. My cousin whose due in Jan has been going to therapy because she has a couple ribs out of place. I'd talk to your doc if it's getting worse
  • I had this when I was pregnant with my son. It sounds a lot like ribs separation. My son would kick me up there and eventually a couple of my ribs separated from each other and it was pulling on the tissue in between. Unfortunately there wasn't much they could do for me. The good news is, it felt better almost right away after he was born.
  • Idk about the culprit for you, but I have left-side heartburn, confirmed by my OB. It's definitely heartburn given timing of onset every evening/after big meals, but only on the left. I have to sleep on my right side most of the time.

  • I had really bad rib pain about this time with my twins, also on my left side. We just figured it wAs my rib cage expanding and making more room for babies. It would hurt when I laid down and sat up too. It was hard to sleep! It lasted a few weeks until my rib cage expanded a bit and then went away. I tried some stretches but nothing helped much. So if it's that, hopefully it will go away soon!
