Is anyone traveling first trimester

Hi ladies, I'm traveling to India in November to attend the wedding I'm so scare to fly 18 hours I don't have MS yet but I'm afraid it's gonna come while flying. Any tips if anyone else is traveling somewhere far.

Re: Is anyone traveling first trimester

  • Bring ginger mints. These have helped get me through long days at work. Also, make sure you bring snacks and get up and walk around frequently. I'm flying cross country to Rhode Island next week and that's my plan. You're pretty brave going to India right now. I've always wanted to go, but right now I don't think I could handle the strong smells.

  • @rkalaria - hi! I'm traveling to India in November too! Have you made the trip before? Where are you leaving from? Any layovers in your flight? Where in India are you going to? My husband is from India (Dehli) and we travel there once a year. Travel time for me ends up being 24-26 hours each way. I'm dreading the flight pregnant for the first time.

I plan on drinking lots of water, got an aisle seat and compression socks and I'm bring lots of snacks. I scheduled a layover for a few hours in AMS and will get a sleeping pod there to rest in between flight legs. My doctor recommended getting up every three hours to walk a bit amc I'll be bringing my medical record with me just in case. Watch the Mosquitos in India...wear repellant (my doc recommended a child's brand not heavy on DEET) and sunscreen. Only drink bottled water from reputable places and watch what you eat (I only eat at nice places in India or at H's relatives' homes).

I'm pretty nauseous from MS. It sucks but I'm trying to eat small meals every few hours to starve it away (nuts, crackers, etc). Bring snacks with you. I'll post more later but if you are new to travel to India, ask away any questions you might have!

Thank you for ur suggestion I really appreciat it all. I've travelled few times to India but first time pregnant and traveling is getting me anxious ant long flight and Motion sickness or morning sickness. I'm gonna follow ur suggestions. I wouldn't travel if I didn't have attend a important wedding.
  • Dramamine is safe while pregnant. I take it when I fly and I don't get sick at all, pregnant or not.

  • There was also another thread yesterday about ms on a plane. Read that one and then maybe you can be prepared. I don't have ms yet but my purse is stocked with ginger and trash bags.
  • I just got back from a trip, but it was a short flight. Hydrate!! I take Diclectin because I've been really sick. Taking that, my all day sickness wasn't any worse flying.

    Good luck!
  • Lurker from December...I went on a cruise at 7 weeks and I took Mama Sea Bands with me. They are small wristbands for the pressure points in your wrists and help ease any nausea. I got mine at Walgreens, I think you can get them at CVS too. They really helped me during my first trimester, and I wore them long after the cruise. They helped my BFF when she flew as well. A pair is less than $20, so I'd highly recommend giving them a try in "motion" situations!

  • Just now back from my second 26hr trip in two weeks and thanking my lucky stars to be home. I'm im full swing nausea/aversions, so it was not the most fun. Crackers/bland snacks every two hours were key as well as water... And lots of it. Aisle seat for sure so you can get up as often as you should, and try to rest when you can. The air hostesses were very sweet and tried to get me all vegetarian things (often from first class!) as meat was grossing me out. It's going to be a jet laggy few days now, but I'm just happy to be somewhere I feel comfortable finally....home sweet home.

  • I traveled from Western Canada to Denmark at week 7, and flew home at week 8. It's about a 7 hour time change, but it took about 20 hours to get home with the layovers. If you know of any foods that settle your stomach when you feel nausea coming on, be sure to pack them. Actually, pack a lot of water and snacks in general. I find my metabolism has days where it revs right up where I'm hungry all the time, and being hungry is one of the things that makes me nauseous (oh the irony). I was having one of those days in the middle of a trans-atlantic flight, and having snacks on hand was the only thing making it bearable.
