If most guests have to travel, it's served as lunch. If most of the guests are local, it's dinner. IE, close family at my mom's was dinner. Extended family at my house this year will mean lunch.
Do you do drunk thanksgiving or sober Thanksgiving? We've always done sober, but I hear stories of drunk Thanksgivings...
We usually do my side for lunch -my mom's side and it consists of extended family. We do DH's for supper which is just his siblings at his parents' house. So basically like @smushi said. We're just fortunate we never have to travel.
March 2016 Moms: January Siggy Challenge "Pregnancy Problems"
We used to do lunch, around 12 or 1. Since the kids, the whole family has nicely switched to 3 or 4 so they can nap first. No one wants thanksgiving with cranky toddlers!
We usually go 2 places for Thanksgiving, my Grandma's house (dad's side of the family, parents are divorced) first and we usually show up around 1 and eat at 2. Then we go to my mom's (mom's side of the family) for dinner after that and eat around 6. It ends up being a lot of food but it's fun to see family we don't get to see all the time! Plus you can pick and choose your favorite dishes/desserts at each house!
ETA: there is always wine and beer but people generally don't get wasted. There has of course been the rare exception
We do lunch (or as soon as it's all done lol cause we're a family that likes to eat) and if we go to any extended family they generally have theirs around 3pm. Neither I nor my husband drink and also don't allow it at our home, my family, that's a whole different situation. I don't think they know how to eat without a beer (or 4) which is why my husband and I are the way we are about not allowing it.
March '16 December Siggy Challenge - Favorite Christmas Movies/Quotes
We have it around 4-5pm so there's ample time to have all the courses and not feel totally stuffed. We always have alchohol, but never beer. It's always wine for the ladies, and whiskey / vodka for the guys. No drinking at a celebration just seems unorthodox (unless you're preggo).
Since in-laws will come in two weeks to help take care of hubby and DD while I'm traveling for work, we most likely won't see them this year for thanksgiving. They live 6 hours away (not too far) but all of us are too lazy to travel. We'll most likely celebrate with my brother and sister in law. They consistently run about 2 hours behind schedule and DD needs to be in bed around 9ish. I'm hoping for either lunch or early early dinner (like starting at 4, which means 6 for them). My parents live in a different country so they don't celebrate Thanksgiving.
At my house I do a small Thanksgiving on the sunday bwfore, around 1pm- a late lunch.
On Thanksgiving Day we go to my in-laws, who no matter what time they tell us it's always 2 hours later...
February Siggy Challenge- Post pregnancy indulgences
We do my family at 2-3, drive 5 miles and do DH's family's dinner around 5.
My family's dinner is usually a sober meal (maybe a glass of wine with dinner) but DH's is definitely a drunk dinner. We always end up hanging there alllll night.
Sometime around 5 or 6. Growing up we ate around 1, but I prefer having Thanksgiving later in the day. It takes off all of the pressure of getting up early to put the turkey in, etc (we host) and allows family members to attend multiple gatherings if they wish since everyone else seems to serve dinner at noon. I do 90% of the cooking and prep the day before and then on Thanksgiving it's super simple . . . roast the turkey, make the gravy and mashed potatoes, set the table. Everything is cleaned the day before and desserts/sides are already made. Half the time I'm looking around for something to do!

My grandmother used to tell the horror story of the year her sister hosted Thanksgiving dinner and dinner was FINALLY ready to be served at . . . 3 AM. (I can't believe anyone was still there to eat it!)
We always do around 2 - late lunch. Enough time to get food ready without panic, and then have dessert and coffee, and then have leftover sandwiches and second dessert later on. Our families both drink alcohol (but only my one SIL gets drunk haha).

I'll be going to my mom's house, and it's been getting earlier every year it seems. This year it'll be at 2pm, but for me I think 3-4 is more ideal. Then again I'm a procrastinator so I like to have a lot of day to lay around during before I have to do anything.
We usually have a dinner around 4. That gives us time to watch the parade and the dog show :-) I'm so excited this year dessert will be our gender reveal cake :-)
Also everyone has a glass of wine with dinner but no major drinking.

We are having thanksgiving at our house around 1pm. It's the first time we're cooking and having it our house. We will have beer, wine and alcohol for anyone who wants to drink. No one gets wasted. After dinner we play card games, followed up by desert. It's nice family time.
Now that you bring it up... I wish I was having my thanksgiving meal RIGHT NOW!!! Haha but we usually eat around 2 or 3 and then hit the leftovers for the rest of the day whenever we feel like it. Turkey sandwiches with mayo are better than the turkey the first time around!!! *drooling profusely*
We go to my parents and eat around noonish then head to my in laws and eat around 5ish. When we lived in town I would host both sides since I was the only person in my family with both sides of the family living in the same town and state. We would eat around 3:30. It was nice hosting a bit stressful since all my family together is over 28 people.
