  • I feel your pain. I had a consistent oversupply with my first that didn't just go away. I would pump 5 oz in 5 minutes and still have milk left to feed LO. I had to pump some before feeding otherwise the flow was way too strong and she would choke and sputter. Eventually she learned how to drink from the fire hose and I could skip pumping. I say do what works for you and your supply. Pump if you need to. I wouldn't do anything to intentionally reduce milk production at this point though. You never know when LO will need more. Good luck!

yeah I can pump a bottle from each side and still have left over milk to feed him so I have a massive freezer pile already, if I don't pump some of it out he doesn't drink it all and I end up just leaking everywhere so I've got really no choice but to pump even just a little, and he's only feeding every 4 hours and will NOT wake to be fed and if I can wake him he will suck for maybe a minuet and fall straight back asleep. I'm feeling like a cow hahah

You need to nurse more often. 8 to 12 times a day. Avoid too much heat, I've instead. Heat will bring more blood flow to the area and increase the pain. I agree to avoid pumping as it will bring more milk in.

I'm nursing every 4 hours as he wont wake at all to be fed I've tried everything, my health nurse was worried that he only feeds every 4 hours but he's already above his birth weight so she said its fine and to keep feeding whenever he wants
if I don't pump a little bit between feeds I end up drenched in milk so there's not really much I can do
  • I was able to fix this in a week or two! Baby was in NICU for 3 weeks so I was only BF 3 times a day and pumping 6-8. I would have 60 oz a day to freeze in addition to BF. Once she got home it was awful to have to pump that much but I had to or I would hurt and be lumpy. You don't want to get plugged so not pumping at all isn't in the answer. I started to go 4 hours then 5-6, so I would BF 4 times a day and pump 4 times a day. Once I went to all BF once her weight was good at 1 month, i then only had to 1-2x a day Bc I would give an bottle with vitamin at night. 2 weeks later I really only have to pump if am out and skip a BF (more than 1 bottle a day) it can be done just do it slowly and carefully! As LO eats more your supply will adjust to keep up with.
