Introducing myself

Hi everyone. I hope you all are doing well. I am new to this forum and joined to be able to give and receive support during these troubling times. I am 25 and recently married. I am a nurse on an ortho floor in Nashville. My hustand and I already knew before marriage that I suffer from anovulation. We still have been NTNP since marriage just to see if anything would come of it, but sadly no baby yet. I was put on BCPS at a young age shortly after I started menstrating. It wasn't till I was 20 that I stopped the BCPS and realized I wasn't having a period on my own. My old doctor just kept telling me it was something we would worry about later when I actually wanted kids and would do nothing to find out what was going on. She assumed PCOS but my blood work was negative and she left it alone. I, however, wanted to know what was going on and what it meant for my future. I got a new doctor, whom I love, and she said I just do no ovulate and will née she'll getting pregnant. My only concern is that she didn't do any type of testing to determine if that was ultimately it. For anyone suffering the same issue, is that normal to not have any test to determine if that is what is wrong? That is one thing that has bothered me. I'm worried there is something else that is wrong and we just don't know. We have an appointment next week to discuss the medication I will be put on to try to trigger ovulation. I am rather nervous, so prayers would be appreciated. From the looks of this forum, this is a great place for support on something others don't understand as well. It's nice to know I'm not the one that feels this way. It's reassuring and strengthening. I will continue to pray for you all :)

Re: Introducing myself

  • sheila5890  Welcome to the board and I'm sorry you have experienced what seems to be very impersonal care. I don't have the same issues, but I have experience nonchalant OBs who just figure things will just correct themselves and leave you with a ton of unanswered questions. I'm hoping and praying your experience from here on out is a positive and productive one with your new doctor. This is definitely a GREAT board to be apart, you'll find nothing but care and support and laughter here!

  • Hi and welcome! Sorry you have to be here. Annovulatory dysfunction can be tested a couple of ways 1) cd3 blood work for progesterone levels 2) cd 21 bw for same 3) us to identify ruptured follicle/fluid at the time or shortly after ovulation.

At home the easiest way is to temp. You can combine basal body temp tracking with fertility tools like an OPK or checking your cervical position and mucus regularly. Taking charge of your fertility is a book that can walk you through how to implement these at home testing measures which will confirm ovulation or annovulation if you want.

If you're certain you aren't ovulating, you can try to improve with diet, but your doctor is right in that you will need some type of hormonal assistance (clomid or letrozol are common first steps) to achieve pregnancy. Hope this helped a little! GL!
  • Thank you both for the support. @HBamama2B my hormone levels always test fine, but I think I am going to take your advice and order the book. I want to be able to understand more to help my situation. My husband and I have both began to eat a mostly organic diet :) so we are on the right track. Have an appt with my OB next week to talk about medicine. Getting nervous and excited.
  • I don't have that specific problem but wanted to tell you good luck with everything! My friend found out she wasn't ovulating using OPKs. She was started on Clomid and got pregnant! GL!
  • Welcome to the board @sheila5890. I don't have personal experience with your diagnosis, but wanted to wish you good luck.
