Re: **1st Tri Check-in 10/26**

  • 9w 2d :)

I have an u/s at OBs tomorrow and an appointment with him to discuss all the testing etc. I can't wait to see little bean again. I've been getting nauseous every night around dinner time of course and I have a sinus infection but hopefully it's almost done!

QOTW: We will take DD trick or treating around our neighborhood and one of her friends are coming over to come with us. They are also expecting their second and we will tell them then that we are too. :)

  • Hi ladies! This is probably my last time in the first tri check-in as I'm 12w6d. Looking forward to seeing you all in the second trimester!

I had my NT scan last Friday. The sonographer had the screen towards her for the first bit when she was taking measurements, but was nice enough to tell me right away that there was a heart beat (although I knew that as hubby as been much better than me at finding baby with the doppler...he tried twice last week and found it within 5 min!). Once she was done, she let DH come in and turned the screen towards me. And then I started crying (happy tears)! I hadn't had a US since week 7 when they wouldn't show me anything (except what she left on the screen by accident), and I just couldn't believe how baby-like it now looked. She refused to take a guess on the sex :( I then had bloodwork, and will have more in a few weeks. I have a doctor's appointment on Friday, and he will then make the OB referral based on the results of then US (i.e. Whether I'm high risk or not, but so far everything is lookimg good from the measurements I saw). We had a big family gathering on Saturday for my grandma's birthday, and my family was really excited for us. I got teary eyed a few times, especially when one of my aunts told me she cried when she found out because she was so happy for us. So my husband is saying that it seems like I'm on a crying roll, and he expects it to last at least til May ;)

QOTW: we have some friends visiting from out of town and we'll be going to the Toronto Zoo, where they have a pinata for the Pandas for Halloween. Then going back to our place and having a little get together with more friends. DH works for a chocolate/cookie/candy company, and so we typically give the best candy on the block.

@NB817 : are you on anything for the nausea? I've been on Diclectin, but so afraid to stop! I'll see what the doc says on Friday. Hope you have fun trick or treating with your little one!
  • Loading the player...
  • @kidshrink Wait why wouldn't they show you the screen last time?? And why wasn't your DH in there with you the whole time at this latest u/s?? That is strange to me because we are always shown everything. I'm glad baby is doing well and that your family is so happy for you!

As far the nausea I'm not taking anything. It really only started last week and it's not killing me so I'm going to try to hold out on getting any meds for it. It's more just annoying when it happens always when I am ready to eat dinner cause then I'm not interested in food at all but then at 9pm I'm so hungry and it's late to be having dinner for me anyway. ;)

  • They have weird regulations about sonographers and what they're allowed/not allowed to say here (i.e. If you're not a doctor, you're not allowed to communicate much if any medical information). But she could tell me about the heart beat. Go figure!

FX your nausea sticks with dinner time only. Mine was throughout the day and made it difficult to work (never knew if I was just going to burp or whether I'd vomit in front of a kid/client). Meds weren't too much of an option!
  • Hello! This is my first checkin. I am 4w 3d. Just a little background info on our journey: DH and I moved to Prague in the Czech Republic in June to undergo IVF. Our first two rounds we only had 1 embryo each and results were BFN. We took a cycle off and did a natural IVF cycle (no meds but retrieved my one egg - it didn't fertilize) Round three of IVF, my body kicked in and I ended up with 12 retrieved, 9 mature and 8 fertilized. We transferred 2 and got a BFN. We had two frosties and transferred both of them on 10/16. I got a BFP on 10/24 with a HPT and beta was 107. On 10/26 beta was 462.

Things are a little less monitored in the beginning of the first trimester over here (I had to beg for a second beta) so I am not sure when we will set up my first u/s. I'd like to be able to hear a heartbeat when I go in so maybe I would wait until I am 6weeks? Any thoughts on when is best to go in for the first ultrasound? I have had a few symptoms like dizziness, sore boobs (ouch!!), queasiness, and the nose of a bloodhound.

QOTW: We don't have any plans for Halloween - kids celebrate it here but there isn't trick-or-treating. All Souls Day is on Nov 2 and they fill the cemeteries with candles at dusk so we will go to one of the cemeteries then. The cemetery that is nearest us is absolutely beautiful with old crypts and huge trees.

@NB817 hope you feel better soon being sick and pregnant doesn't sound like much fun!

@KidShrink That is interesting about the sonographer! So glad you got to see the ultrasound after she was done. And congrats moving into 2nd tri!!!!

Looking forward to getting to know you ladies!

  • Hi! Also my first check in. I am 4w3d (EDD July 4th, 2016).

A little about us: we have been ttc for 3 years. PCOS diagnosis Oct 2013, varicocele diagnosed November 2013. IUI #1 (femara plus ovidrel) in September failed. IUI #2 (femara, follistim, ovidrel, and progesterone) BFP 2 days ago!!

1st beta yesterday was 139.9, will have second beta tomorrow and schedule an early u/s bases on the results.

QOTW: we are hosting our annual costume party. Should be a lot of fun! I will be dressing up as SheHulk :)

I'm so glad to be on this board with all of you!
  • I am 10w 1d today! Getting closer to that second tri! :D

Not really a lot to update on this week. I had my ultrasound on Friday and bean's heartbeat was 178. I saw him/her moving around. It was so precious. I almost cried. Bean looks more like a human now too, which is awesome!

As of right now I don't think we even have plans for Halloween yet. The Melting Pot (our favorite restaurant ever!) is having endless fondue over the weekend, so we may end up there Friday or Saturday. There is a Halloween game night I wanted to go to but they just changed it to a drinking night and I don't want to have to make up excuses to all of these people why I'm not drinking. We aren't ready to tell people we are expecting a little one yet.

  • @KidShrink Congrats on being almost in the second trimester! I am glad she at least told you there was a heartbeat and let you see your little baby when she was done!! Isn't it amazing? I hope I get to see my little bean when I have my next appointment at 11/16.

@NB817 I hope your nausea gets better! At least it's only at night, so it doesn't mess with you all day! I haven't had much of a problem with that so far. *knock on wood*

@susycat77 Congratulations! Welcome to the group. :) Where did you live before you moved to Prague? Will you move back to where you are from when you are far enough along or do you plan to stay there? My fist US was at 6w4d. Around 6 weeks is when you should be able to see the heartbeat for the first time, so that's why my doctor did it then. I went back again at 8 weeks to make sure everything was progressing.

@aceoffaith Congratulations! Welcome to the group.

  • @susykat77 That's great you got to move there to do the IVF. Is it cheaper there than in the US, is that why you moved? Sorry so many questions, I am super curious! I see you have a blog attached to your signature, does that go more into detail?

  • @adorkable pixie the blog does go into all the detail. We started the blog because of our adventure in Prague with IVF. The closest RE to me when I was in CO was Colorado Center for Reproductive Management in Denver (4hrs away). The cost was going to be around 50k at CCRM for the three cycle banking, transfer and meds for all three cycles. The same protocol at the RE here was at most 12k. We sold everything and decided to embark on an adventure. We figured we could go 50k in debt while getting pregnant and traveling Europe - although we have spent nowhere near that amount of money here. It has been an adventure for sure. Really wonderful getting to travel but also hard being away from family and friends. I don't mind the questions. I am an open book - mostly because I want others who are struggling to realize that there are other options (and you don't have to move here like we did) We are just so happy that we are pregnant and no amount of money could change that!  :>

  • @susykat77 : what an amazing adventure with a great ending! I can't see the link to your blog (I'm always on the mobile app), but I'm going to have to check it out too! Was there a specific reason for Prague as opposed to anywhere else (other than cost, but I imagine there would be other low cost countries)?
  • @kidshrink Thank you!! It has been quite the amazing adventure. The Czech Republic is one of the lowest as far as medical costs. Medical tourism is pretty common here. The other countries that had similar prices were India and Thailand but we wanted to be in Europe. We also looked into Greece and Switzerland but both were significantly more money. I hear that Poland also has pretty low medical fees.  Here is the blog: www.wearethehammitts.blogspot.com

  • @susykat77 : took a quick peek...that fertility beach looks amazing! Who knows whether that was the magic trick, but that sure seems like an awesome place to visit! We went to Italy this summer and spent a few days in Bari (top of the heel), where DH's family of from. We thought of crossing the Adriatic to Croatia and visiting that area, but just didn't have enough time. Definitely a place we want to visit, along with Prague.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Europe!
  • @kidshrink There is something to fertility beach for sure!! I am still carrying a stone around with me that DH found there. After traveling by way of Budapest to Croatia, we took a boat across the Adriatic to Bari. That is so fun that your DH's family is from there!! We headed south from Bari to Polignano a Mare. It has been one of my FAVORITE towns in Europe.

  • It's a beautiful place! We were actually staying right next to Polignano a Mare, which is just beautiful (wth the best gelato at that place with the blue awning, not far from the beach). If you ever have time to go back before you return, one of the highlights of our trip was a cooking class we took in Lecce (more towards the tip of the heel). It's an all day thing, and I got that for DH as our wedding anniversary present. He loves to cook, and still regularly makes me amazing homemade pasta that is to die for! God I wish I could just go back to Italy now!
  • Hello everyone!! I am scheduled for my first ultrasound Friday at 10am and am super nervous. My last pregnancy a year ago was not successful- I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks. With that said, I am praying to see a heartbeat on Friday!!! I will be around 7 weeks on Friday, and will find out my due date, but it should be somewhere around June 17th. I'm prayerful all
Will work out this time. I have been exhausted and very nauseous all week, which the doctor keeps saying is a very good sign.

Looking forward to connecting with you all and sharing this journey together!
  • Hi all! Posting late this week. Have been getting nervous as my symptoms wax and wain. My next US is Friday at 7+0 (us buddy @kaitielynnrichardson !).

Qotw: I have no real plans for Halloween. Maybe handing out candy if we get some trickortreaters this year! :D
  • Hi everyone. Wow this week went by fast. I hope all weeks can go by this fast, at least to get me past this horrid nausea and exhaustion. I had my 12 week ultrasound on Monday and everything was great. Both beans are looking good. Baby B was super active and doing flips. One positive of pregnancy with twins is that you have an ultrasound at each ob visit.
@NB817 I am sorry you have a sinus inf. I hope you can fight it off quickly.
@KidShrink I am sorry about the strict regulations on ur ultrasounds. I'm glad that u finally did get to see ur baby though.
@susykat77 you have a pretty awesome story. Congrats on your BFP.
@kaitielynnrichardson congratulations. I get nervous at every single one of my ultrasounds. Just thinking about the what ifs. I am such a worry wort. Im sure your u/s will be great, can't wait to hear about it.
QOTW: my 10 year old son has pop warner football game, so I will be waking up at 5am to get him there on time. Then we will do our annual trick or treating downtown. Then we will be spending the rest of the evening at my sister in laws Halloween block party. I know I will be exhausted by the end of that day.
  • @HBamama2B I get nervous too. Sometimes I squeeze my bbs just to make sure they're still sensitive. Yeah, I said it. I'm not ashamed. DH usually grabs them at least 4 times a day though, so he usually helps squish that fear. Sorry if TMI. lol It's harder when you're not getting the nausea. Don't get me wrong, I am VERY thankful for that, but my only symptoms are the bbs and fatigue.. and well, being hungry all the time. lol

@kaitielynnrichardsonI hope this pregnancy is a success for you and that the ultrasound puts you a little at ease. :) How far along are you?

@MelenaZ I am jealous of the constant ultrasounds you get. :) I bet that is so nice getting to see your little ones at every visit. It sounds like you're going to have a fun Halloween weekend!

  • @adorkablepixie thank you so much!! this is my first u/s, but based on LMP, I will be 7w0d tomorrow.  My appointment is at 10am, so 24 hours away!! My appointment is with my RE - I am hoping that once he sees everything progressing well, he will release me to my OB.. When I had my first beta drawn at 12dpo, it was only a 16, but two days later at 14dpo it was 67, so the dr. felt pretty good about it.

HBamama2B what time is your appointment?  good luck and keep me posted!!!

  • @kaitielynnrichardson welcome and congrats!! Your RE won't use your LMP to figure out your due date. They will take your treatment date and add two weeks to calculate how far along you are. what treatment did you do and when did you do it??

  • @kaitielynnrichardson That's exciting! My RE kept me until I was 8 weeks, they did two ultrasounds before they released me to my OB. As @NB817 said, they'll go by your treatment schedule. My LMP was in the beginning of June (or maybe it was July..), so that would be way off for me. lol

  • @NB817 I took Letrozole CD 4-8. then Ovidrel Trigger Shot on CD 12 with TI on CD 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.  I think they said ovulation usually occurs between 36 and 48 hours after the trigger..  Since it wasn't an IUI or IVF, I think they will still use my LMP, since we did Timed Intercourse.. If they don't,  would they say I am 5W3D tomorrow?  Confused.. 10am tomorrow isnt that far away, but it certainly seems like its taking forever to get here :)

This was my first medicated cycle, as I don't typically ovulate on my own.  We tried for 18 months naturally, but after the first MC, it just didn't happen for us.

  • @kaitielynnrichardson it's btwn 7-8:30am! What time is yours? :)

@AdorkablePixie lol! No such thing as tmi here and such a great truth! Nice to know I'm not alone!

@MelenaZ ugh! Hope 13th week is the charm for you and you pop back with the golden trimester full of energy and a passive stomach!
