How are you hiding the blump/bump?

I'm not telling work until at least 12 weeks, but since I'm also interviewing for another job I may not even mention it then. Currently I'm 10 weeks and really only have the blump bad after eating. But I am so glad its starting to, somewhat, cool off in Texas because I have decided to become the queen of scarves. I'm a little worried I won't be able to wear my pants much longer, so elastic band skirts are about to become a staple, if I can get enough energy to shave my legs anyway.

I am running out of ideas. I wake up feeling kind of thin, and I weigh 5 lbs less than when I got my BFP, but then I see a mirror mid day and it suddenly seems super obvious! Does anyone have some good tips for hiding the blump/bump? What are you doing/wearing?

Re: How are you hiding the blump/bump?

  • Skinny jeans, chunky sweaters/blowsey shirts, etc. That's what I was wearing before I got KU, so it's not a change at all. I don't have much of a blump, though, and my pants still fit, etc.

  • I think I don't care to try to hide it anymore.  I'm almost 14 weeks though.  This week, it started to feel like I'm just showing all the time (belly is there first thing in the morning, no longer after meals or by the end of the day).

  • If you aren't quite ready to start wearing maternity pants, you could try using a rubber band (or hair tie) and looping it through your button hole and then around your top button.  If you wear a long, untucked shirt, you won't be able to see the top of your pants.  I have been so bloated lately that I have had to do that a few times with jeans and dress slacks.  I'm also waiting until at least 12 weeks to tell my employer, so shift dresses and long, loose fitting blouses and tunic tops are my go-to these days.  It isn't a huge departure from my normal style, so I'm hoping no one will notice for a few more weeks.
  • I feel at home in this thread...

@vinerie pretty much described my uniform and scarves are my new BFFs  @sillyfox @lionstigersbears! I'm not really trying to hide it anymore but I don't feel comfortable in form fitting tops just yet. @lest12 14 weeks tomorrow and I'm showing all the time now too - it really seems to be a true, tiny bump and not a blump anymore.
  • I need to invest in some flowy blouses. Any go to spots to get cute tops inexpensive?  I have leggings but no sweaters or tops really that are long enough to wear with them! I may order some "tall" blouses on old navy's website or something.

  • Ummmm, I feel like I can't really hide the blump anymore  :( No matter what I wear, I just look fat by the end of the day.  I can even see a little pooch under my flowy tops.

  • I've been wearing more button-ups, untucked to hide the bloat/beginning bump. Old Navy has a pretty good selection of loose button-ups. Flowy-front cardigans over more form-fitting shirts have also worked well for me.
  • Everyone knows I am KU, so I am letting the blump/bump thing show. Even with oversized shirts, I still have a pretty visible bump. I am slim, but always carried my weight in my stomach, so even before, I sometimes looked pregnant (expect when I am working out and eating well, then its pretty flat. I must say, I miss that). My blump is getting hard, so thinking its more of a bump now.

  • I have no idea why, but today I woke up, put on a pretty fitted shirt, and just rocked out with my...blump out! It is starting to feel a lot less squishy so I might be transitioning into bump territory. I look the same as when I was 6 months pregnant with my son and I think it is because my abs are just shot and more willing to give up and give in to the bump. I have been rubbing my belly, checking out my side view in any reflective surface and basically feeling like one hot mama! I am constantly slipping into any conversation the words "pregnant", "baby", "expecting", and "pregnancy". So, to answer your question, I am not hiding this blump/bump. All my previous efforts have failed so I am going whole hog and letting it all out.

I do find that elastic waist skirts, flowy cardigans over camis/tanks, and chunky sweaters work wonders. Some leggings will even have a bit of a tummy panel so that paired with a flowy dress or thick sweater could hide a bump pretty well. My nurse leader suggested getting suspenders (bear with me!) and wearing them under a shirt to hold up pants that don't button, but I much prefer the elastic band trick PP mentioned.

  • Lots of stretchy skirts, dresses, and a-line tops. Turns out I have a lot of clothes for bloated days already!

This. I *thought* I had done a good job at getting my abs back...but after a csection, it's basically back from absolutely nothing and they're waving the white flag this week. Last pregnancy, I remember my abs pulling and hurting around this time and until around 20 weeks as they stretched and separated some. I guess at least I'll have less discomfort this time around concerning my abs! I'm close to just not caring to hide it though. My coworkers know now, but my students don't yet.
  • Yeah second baby and DD is 17 months, I also had a CS. Zero abs here. I know a lot of it is bloat but it's already starting to get to a point that I can't hide what looks very much like a bump.

  • @yogahh I can't wait until I go public and its not this big secret, and a game of tip toeing and trying to remember who knows and who doesn't!

  • I am also hiding blump because of job interviews! Shift dresses, cardigans, scarves, dress pants with Bella bands and loose shirts, slightly-too-big pants (I never liked tight clothing) with hip-length shirts... I just hope I fit into my interview suit!!!
  • I'm going with empire waist, knee length dresses + boots on days I go into the office. And I second the scarf!!! It does wonders!
  • @yogahh we have a grandma club at our school. Cute old ladies who come in every day to volunteer. They love pointing out my "bump" and have been for about two weeks. At first my feelings were hurt because it's 90% bloat, but I decided to just own it today. At no other point in life will it be considered cute to let it all hang out. lol

I still believe mine is more from my being able to do my hard workouts, and my increase of crap food, but hey, whatevs...

  • Dresses, dresses, dresses. Easy though, as I live in the tropics.
Empire cut or A-line both work great, midi or maxi, both do the job.

I have some with which i wear a lose blazer or a flowy black crop top, that hides everything perfectly.

Can't wait to show the bump out and proud, but  not just yet for work reasons.....
But i already bought 2 really lovely, fitted and stretchy dresses, which will show it off very beautifully, (well, already does, but not wearing them yet).
It's the only time where you can proudly sport a bump, so I am really looking forward to it :-)!!!!

A few more weeks, and then it's bump show time!

Right now, people might just think I've eaten too much lately and put on weight.

    Ahhh! Major QBF

Anyways, I too keep forgetting who knows. At Christian Ed Committee meeting last night, I saw a jar of pickles and made a joke about someone being brave bringing a jar of pickles to a meeting with a pregnant woman. Half the group laughed and the other half just looked confused. So I finally stood up, did a turn, and the light dawned on all but one poor guy who was clearly trying to figure out if he should say something, then blurted "Oh, yeah, you do look really pregnant!" All the women in the group turned on the poor guy who instantly regretted it, but I just laughed it off and thanked him saying "Most people just think I ate too much for lunch!" I figure that is how most people will find out the big news...by complete accident and in the least climactic and meaningful way. Oh well.

  • Mine is slowly starting to turn into a bump, but it's still mainly bloat. It gets harder at certain times of the day. I'm just letting people think I'm gaining weight.
