Postpartum bleeding

I'm 15 days postpartum and still bleeding (red). My papers said it should turn pink/yellow and slow down after 4 days. I have tried taking it easy the last couple days now. Hard to do with a 2 year old though. Anyone else bleeding red for this long?

I was completely done at 3wks with my first. I can't remember how long it was red for.

Re: Postpartum bleeding

  • I had bright red bleeding again right around the two week mark as well, even after everything had already eased up quite a bit. I was worried but I never ended up calling the OB. It only lasted a few days and then drastically decreased, and now at 3 weeks PP I haven't had any bleeding in two days.

  • I bled for ten days total. Are you saturating pads quickly or is it more like a period? I would probably call my physician if I were in your situation and things weren't slowing down or tapering off!
  • I'm 17 days and it just picked up a couple days ago and is still red. Not a crazy amount tho. I'm hoping it'll stay to taper off again. I'm not having any other worrisome symptoms.
  • I was the same went to my doc and she had to scrap me because I had placenta membranes left over. I suggest you go to get checked.
  • Mine tapered off and came back at two weeks. Then it was just on and off for another 1.5-2 weeks. I'm four weeks PP and I haven't had really any bleeding in several days.
  • Definitely get checked if it's red, and especially if it's a lot. I bled 8 weeks PP with my first, but after the first month it was brown and just a little, and they said that was normal with breastfeeding.
  • I would say more like a period. And these past few days been feely slightly crampy. I never had a day that I haven't had bleeding. It may be lighter next to none at one half of the day but then the next half I will bleed a lot more. I guess I will call in the morning just to be sure. Thanks for the input!
  • I'm glad you asked this because I'm experiencing something similar. For me, it seemed to really pick up if I do a lot of walking or standing. Just this weekend Dh and I decided I should call on monday, but by yesterday it was light pink and barely there so I didn't call. Mine was never bright red though. Always on the brown side.
  • Let me know what your doctor's office says, mine told me this morning it was normal to still have red bleeding this far out.
  • I have the same problem I'm 12 days pp still bleeding a decent amount, red yellow and brown just depending on my activity level if I go for a walk maybe a mile or two I bleed alot more. Maybe our bodies are telling us to not rush our recovery. :P
  • I'm in the same boat except mine is really hit and miss. It will be very light and hardly there and then a few hours later it will have picked up a little and I will have a pea sized clot in the toilet. I also find that when I'm more active it happens. I'm not sure about my situation down there. I have no idea how many stitches I had, I just know I had 2nd degree tearing. I've just brushed it off so far though because I hear that some women bleed longer and there's no huge clots or soaking of pads. I figured the same as jburrell13. Maybe it's my body telling me to slow down.
  • I'm 14 days out and bleeding red like a period the whole time, but I was never told that's not normal. My OB just said if I have a fever or bleeding gets heavy to call. I'm still somewhat crampy and my belly still has a ways to go down so I figure it's doing what it's supposed to.
  • Mine started 2 weeks pp right as I started driving again. Freaked me out but Dr said it was normal especially if pumping. Still going on though off and on. I find its heavier when I over exert myself. Called the Drs office today and still say it's normal and normal to have cramping as well bc your uterus is shrinking back down to size. I had a c-section so I have the added joy of healing which twinges every so often.
  • I had my baby on the 2nd and I'm still bleeding. I guess if your breastfeeding it can continue for up to 6 weeks!
  • I am 11 days PP and had tapered off to only needing a pantiliner, but moved furniture today and I'm back to bright red blood. With my last baby it was off and on like that for 4 weeks.
