Winter Car Seat Cover

Looking for a car seat cover and wondered if anyone likes the jj cole winter cover that goes around the entire car seat or the eddie bauer one that just slips into the seat like a sleeping bag ?

Re: Winter Car Seat Cover

  • From what I've read if you're getting a cover it should be one that cover the seat as nothing should be inserted into the seat.
  • Loading the player...
  • Anything that goes behind the baby, which I think you are referring to with the sleeping bag like one, is not considered safe because it could compress during an accident and the make the restraints loose.

Also, I don't know a ton about this but any accessory could automatically make the car seat no long flame retardant if it doesn't pass the same safety standards.
  • I've had the jjcole winter cover since the beginning of 2013 and I've loved it.. It keeps them extra warm. I plan on using it with this baby.

I live in Alberta, Canada and it gets cold! We used the JJ Cole cover with DD (also a November baby) and will use it again with this baby! Here is a picture of when DD was just a baby all snuggled in! This does not go under the baby and does not get in the way of the straps, it goes over top the car seat so it is completely safe!

This is what I use and love it.

  • I like the cozy cover which is similar to the JJ cole
  • @nmwheel1 where did you get your cover at? Thinking of investing in a good one since it gets so cold here! :)

  • If you go with the JJ Cole, just makes sure it's the cover and not the bundle me(:
  • Also had the JJ Cole cover. Works great. Just dug it out of storage from my daughter. It's still in great shape.
  • I got the Jolly Jumper Sneak a Peak Arctic - it's the shower cap style but also has an additional blanket attached in case it's really cold. It had great reviews on Amazon.

I actually ordered it off amazon.ca! It worked great for us!
  • I got one of these for my baby shower and I am wondering if it makes a difference that the one I got has a spot for the straps to come through the back of the item?  I want to use it cause I live in Vermont and its going to be freezing here but I don't want to violate any warranties or anything.

Based on your description, it sounds like you got the BundleMe. As I understand it, and please correct me if I'm wrong -- that one is sort of like a sleeping bag, with the hole in the back for the straps to go through to keep baby in place. As a result it sits beneath the baby but "inside" the car seat or stroller seat. Which is fine if you're attaching a car seat to a stroller frame and walking around, or placing a baby directly in a stroller... but if you're driving around, you want nothing (not even a bulky bunting or jacket) to be between the baby and the car seat because it means the straps can't be snug enough on the baby's actual bod.

JJ Cole also sells a product called "Car Seat Cover" (https://jjcolecollections.com/car-seat-cover versus https://jjcolecollections.com/original-bundleme) that has elastic around the edges and wraps around the outside of the seat. Within the seat, the baby would then remain directly against the car seat as he or she ought to.

(As some people have pointed out, you can make the case that ANY accessory that does not arrive in the car seat manufacturer's box itself is not tested for safety, but I hope that helps explain the difference between the JJ Cole products!)
  • I got the cozy cover at my baby shower and im glad I got it.. I was going to order the JJ Cole one if I hadn't had gotten it..
  • Thank you all so much I am going to return the Eddie Bauer and get the JJ Cole so nothing is between my baby and the straps on the car seat. Seems to be the safest way to go :)
  • My mother is a saint and picked one up today, it's Cozy Cover, so soft and warm. I can't believe we'll be using it in a little over a week!
  • We just got the JJ cole bundle me. It says it is crash tested and safe on the package but now after reading this I am unsure. I already washed it and threw out the package- wish I would have researched it more.
  • @French_mani
For what it's worth- we were told the same thing as pps re the bundle me. Our child Ed classes specifically told us not to use one because they aren't considered safe due to the risk of compression in a crash. :/ but it should still be good when you are using it with a stroller rather than in a car!
