ALLERGIES!!! losing my mind

Mums, I'm allergic to EVERYTHING. I'm sneezing every minute, runny nose and itchy watery eyes. The only tablets safe knock me out and I have a toddler so that can't happen. Anyone else? Any tips? My first pregnancy was the same just not this bad. It's horrible

  • Call your doctor. They can recommend medications that are safe to take.

  • Cetirizine (Zyrtec) and Loratidine (Claritin) are generally considered safe in pregnancy (category B, same as Benadryl) and are non sedating.

  • I actually called the doc. about this yesterday. They said make sure that it's Claritin and NOT Claritin-D.  But just like PP, they said that there is no problem with that or Zyrtec.

  • Aside from what PPs have mentioned, maybe a sinus rinse/neti pot would help you, as well as some non-filtered apple cider vinegar with the mother. I mix about a tablespoon with some raw honey and a little warm water and chug it. It's nasty but it helps. I hope you get some relief soon! I have bad spring allergies and it can be rough.

  • This is more of a long term fix and a wives tale but worked well for me in college but if you have a local bee or honey farmer and eat a spoonful of honey a day it supposedly makes you immune to common allergens in your area if the bees are local. Supposedly the honey contains small amounts of pollens and allergens and your body will quit making histimines against them if you are injesting them. We have no local bee farmers in western Kansas though :(.
  • Thanks so so much to everyone for your advice. I'm in Australia so not sure if our drugs are slightly different. But I've been to the dr and she said I can't take clarytine or Zyrtec. The only one I can take is polaramine and it knocks me out. I have a steroid nose spray from dr but can only use for max three days. I'll get there! It's spring here in Australia and I've actually even become allergic to my cat!! I never was. The dr told me my immune system must be in over drive protecting the baby so I'm coping it all. As long as Bub is ok I guess I shouldn't complain. Thanks again ladies it means a lot xx
