Girls' Night Advice

I just started a new job in August and am slowly making some work friends. Tomorrow, after work, I have been invited to a happy hour with some ladies I really like at work! I'm not ready to tell co-workers that I'm pregnant (3w2d). How am I going to get around having a drink? Any advice is welcome!!

Re: Girls' Night Advice

  • No advice, but I wish you luck.

I'm good friends with coworkers, too. I told them at 7 weeks when I nearly barfed on one of them. Happy hour was much easier after that.

  • Do you drive? I would just say that you won't have even 1 drink & get in the car, so enjoy club soda. Or you could get there in advance & ask the bartender to make you a non alcoholic drink in a cocktail glass so it looks like you're drinking?

  • I've had to do this in the past and am already to scheme on what to say this time around!

Not all will work, but some ideas...
    1. Don't drink and drive at all, not even one.
    2. On medication so can't drink
    3. On a no alcohol diet right now..weight loss or just General fitness
    4. Drank too much this weekend so taking it easy this week
    5. Not feeling well/Lunch upset stomach so don't want to push it

    Hope this helps!
  • Those are amazing! I'd like to get there early, that would be easiest. I'll update on how it goes!
  • All of @workingmom562 's suggestions are great, but if you haven't drunk with these ladies a lot already, you might not even be asked about not drinking.  people don't drink for so many reasons that it could be tactless to give someone the third degree about it.

I went out tonight with a group of other moms and had prepared a story about not wanting to drink and drive, but no one asked.

Regardless, have fun tomorrow night and good luck!

  • I used to order drinks and then excuse myself and tell them to make me a virgin drink... Or say vodka soda and change it to soda ;)

  • I go with @betheliz with this one. Most people won't care if you order a ginger ale. People are at all different stages in their lives, and gong through all different things. It may seem like they'll suspect you're pregnant because you're thinking about it so much, but most likely they won't question it. Have fun!

  • I have a party to go to this Saturday and they're all heavy drinkers, I was going with the have to get up early to go to boston the next day, and making a healthy life change. I'm also counting on the fact that they're my DH's friends and wont pay attention because I'm out of their inner circle anyway. First time I won't be offended if they ignore me.

  • I always blame fitness. Booze turns directly into sugar so trying to avoid it to up my game! Or "just not worth the calories today" works too especially if you're planning to order water instead.
  • @southernVOL how did it go?
