1st Trimester

Phenergan

My doc prescribed 25 mg Promethazine (generic Phenergan) bc I can't get a handle on my nausea. It's starting to interfere with working. I've not seen you ladies talk about taking this. I know if my doctor prescribed it it's more than likely fine. I'm just a little concerned just bc I wasn't prescribed it last pg and haven't seen anyone really mention it here. Thoughts?

Re: Phenergan

  • If your doctor prescribed it for you, then should be fine.  Each pregnancy is different so I wouldn't compare to last time necessarily

  • I took it with my first pregnancy. It helped a lot but made me very tired.

  • I took it between weeks 5-7 as needed. My body was extremely sensitive and I couldn't even get out of bed. Since then my ultrasounds and checkups have been healthy, and I haven't taken it since. I did try Diclegis before Phenergan and it didn't help me at all.
  • I was prescribed this, but refused to take it. I may not be a doctor, (the woman who prescribed it was not either though, she is a NP) but the research I did on the med didn't sit well with me. I'm now in my third tri (I still suffer from MS) and found half a pill of unisom 2x a day with a b6 works best. I could also not be on something that would knock me out that hard. I have a 5 year old to care for and I'm a

I've used it in more than one of my pregnancies and have all healthy babies.
ETA- it did make me sleepy though.

  • I have not taken it while pregnant but I have taken it for vomiting with bad periods and migraines and it worked well for me ... But again was not pregnant
  • Well for anyone else looking at this post... I took it for the first time last night and was up for an hour puking acid. It was terrible. Magnified my nausea x100. Guess it's not for me.

  • I took that once before I was pregnant.  Took it around 7pm.  Slept until 6am.  Called into work.  Slept until noon.  Ate.  Slept until 4.

Obviously I can't take it and function.
  • I would definitely recommend researching any drug before you take it. I researched zofran and phenergan and said absolutely not. They're both linked to known birth defects. Zofran is a cat-b drug and phenergan is a cat-c.
