Have any of you ladies considered this or had it done with previous pregnancies? This is my first, I am 11 wks 2 days. I scheduled an ultrasound at a place that does the 3D and early gender confirmation at 15 weeks. I'll be almost 16 weeks when I go but not sure if I want to do a 3D that early because the baby won't have distinguished facial features just yet but I do want to know if it's boy or girl. Just wanted to see if anyone else has considered this or done it before?
My reg OB does this. I didn't realize it was something normally needed to be at a specialist. We haven't done it with this one yet (I suspect we will at my appt Friday) but we did with DD I think at 8 weeks. It's really neat.
Been married since 2009. Unicornuate Uterus (yes I menstruate glitter) Several MCs DD born 2013 (our miracle "you can't have babies" baby!)
They offer the 4D where I go if you're willing to pay extra money. I think the 2D scans are just as heartwarming. At some point you have to put the brakes on taking pictures every which way, imo! There's a lifetime for that!
ETA: We got the blood draw/genetic screening at 10 weeks, so I do know the baby's sex. If I didn't I may be more inclined to do some fancy picture to find out.
I thought we would have to wait for the Anatomy Scan to find out the sex, so I was trying to talk DH into paying at a 3d place to find out early... turns out my Dr's office now does the genetic screenING and we took the blood test last week. I find out today
I'm ok with 2D 3D looks creepy to me Isn't the fourth dimension time? How do they pull that one off?
I think they call it 4D because you can watch the baby move in 3D, so the fourth dimension would be time.. But you can see the baby moving on 2D so that doesn't exactly make sense. Now I'm intrigued.
Yes, I'll be doing the 3d scan as well. I looked up a bunch of YouTube videos of them taken at 14 and 15 weeks, and they are still kinda skeletal, but definitely look like babies.
Thanks ladies. I'll ask my doctors office today when I go for a nurse visit. I just want to know the sex of the baby that's my main reason for scheduling this. But like some of you said the baby may still look more alien-ish and less human this early and I think id rather wait to see a cute baby face in 3D. So maybe I'll go back at a later time for that but right now it would just be nice for them to tell us the sex and maybe just stick with a regular 2D ultrasound.
How many weeks are you @lest12 ? Or how far along were you when they did that screening? I'm not sure if my doctors office offers that or not but I'll ask today when I go for my nurse visit. I'm just anxious.
Yes, I am going to a local place that does a 2d early gender confirmation. I am scheduled to go at 14 weeks. There is no way I can wait until 20 for my regular doctor to tell me, DH and I are just too excited.
We will probably go to an elective place around 14-15 weeks. The place we would go to says anytime after 13 weeks. They do the 3d/4d and sex determination for $25. If you want pictures and DVD, it's extra. I'll be 13 weeks Saturday but we have our NT scan next Wed. So I'll probably wait a week or so after the NT scan.
I don't know how true this is but when I had my elective u/s at 16 weeks the tech said 2d was better for identifying the genetalia so I didn't pay extra for the 3D/4D option.

Really? Maybe I'll stick with 2D then when I go. I'd rather it be as accurate as possible! Plus 2D is cheaper. Maybe I'll go back for 3D once I am farther along.
The 3D place I am going actually does gender verification in 2d, same with the one I went to with my son. st almost 16 weeks he really looked like a little alien
My OB office offers a free 20 minute 3D u/s at 30 weeks. None of my kids have ever cooperated for it, so I'll probably skip it. Personally, I'd never pay extra for a 3D.
We tried to get my doctor to let us do our u/s at 18 weeks during our standard checkup but the doctor wouldn't hear of doing it that early. Instead, we're going for a special u/s only appointment two days before Christmas!
My Dr.'s office did genetic testing with my blood at 10 weeks to tell the sex (among other things). It took 2 weeks at the lab but we knew at 12 weeks that it was a boy!
We found out last night at an elective ultrasound place. They used 2D to find out the sex. Then they switched to 3d/4d so we can watch her. She was obviously alien-like but it was still fun to see her. She was kicking and relaxing with her arms behind her head. She stuck her tongue out even which my daughter loved. She was moving her arms all around, had her legs crossed above her knee like a lady. LOL Here's a 3d image where she is close to sucking her thumb. It looked much better on the screen than the tiny pics they print. But this was at 14w3d.

I am going Thursday! I am so excited to find out the sex and see my nugget again!
We just had a 12w4d ultrasound and the tech said she is fairly certain we are having a boy this time around! Good luck!
