My baby is 3 days old and today finally breast fed great. The nurses said 20 minutes every 2-3 hours which we did and it was fine until night time. He has fed off both breasts for 40 minutes each and is still crying. How can he still be hungry?
Also, nighttime is notorious for the witching hour, where babies tend to be fussy, cry, or constantly want to nurse. Also, the beginning is full of growth spurts and it's pretty similar.
I would offer the breast as often as baby wants it.
There have been times where I nursed for hours. Sometimes it's just for comfort. It's tiring but it will pass. If he's looking for the breast at this age, you should give it.
There were days where I nursed for 13 hours in total. Bub would be at the breast for a good hour and 20mins. She was getting milk the whole time ...a lot of it was for comfort.
I offered the boob constantly. I'd say it was the witching hour. It can be rely stressful. My little girl is notoriously fussy. The only way I can cope sometimes is to put her down and go my own pace.

U r not failing! When LO falls asleep at the breast try wiggling your breast a little so it stimulates him to suck again. Breastfeeding is a lot of work for a newborn and they can tire before the belly is full. When he is done try snuggling for a bit before putting him down. Don't give up, it will get easier in the next few weeks baby will be more alert, stronger sucker, and will go longer between feedings. My DS is 4 weeks now and things are much easier than they were in the 1st week. U can do this!
When u say threw up do u really mean spit up? Mine spit up the other day then wanted back on, I was a little nervous but let him and he ate more and was fine. If he's really vomiting he could be sick but sometimes they spit up with a burp or if they lay flat too soon. Are you changing atleast 8 diapers a day with atleast 2 of those having poop? And is baby back to birth weight if not passed it? If both answers are yes baby is getting enough. They really do nurse almost constantly in the beginning and it's exhausting and really frustrating but it gets better. Mine is almost 6 weeks and the stretches between feedings are getting longer like 3-4 hours instead of 90min- 2 hours. U will get there aoon!
Seems like he may just want to suck. Have you tried a pacifier? When my son has fed for a good amount of time and starts dozing I burp him and try a pacifier. If he's still hungry he won't take it, if he's full he will use it until he falls asleep. I know a lot of the BFing philosophy is anti-pacifier but I am not into being used as one myself.
U should contact a La Leche League leader in your area and try going to the meetings. I went to one in my area and found it helpful. And contact a certified lactation consultant maybe a home visit from one would help.
Babies suck for nutrition and comfort. The more your baby stimulates your breast, the better your milk supply. This is one reason many people wait to introduce a pacifier.
You also don't need to time feeds. Let baby nurse as long as he is interested on the first breast, then offer the second. Switch again as often as needed. When you need a break, have someone else tend to baby while you rest, eat, or shower.

He had been crying on and off for a few hours he would feed for a while then fall asleep in the boob I would put him down he would cry I had to either be rocking him or feeding him when he would take it from midnight until about 7 this morning that was the only way he would settle or sleep. I'm a ftm and am really starting to feel like I'm failing at it.
My baby is 2 weeks old and still seems to constantly be hungry I know I am producing enough milk because when I pump i can get 5 oz No problem. He feeds for 20 mins falls asleep then wakes up in 20 mins to feed again do j feed him but last night everyone he finished he threw up a lot so is he overeating? Or should I keep feeding if he is overeating why does he still always seem hungry?
Is it possible that my LO is sucking hard enough sometimes he will suck and suck but I hear no swallows when I take him off there is no milk in the nipple (I am using a nipple guard because he won't take my nipple and nurses said there should be milk in the nipple that's how you know baby is getting it) but when I hand express I can get milk so I know there is milk their I just can't figure out why he's not getting it
