Menstrual cramps

Are these normal to get around 21 weeks? My ob isnt concerned about any symptoms every time i call or make an apt. My cramps are not severe, but are moderate and uncomfortable because they feel like period cramps.

Re: Menstrual cramps

Are you drinking enough water? I was having very similar sounding cramps and when I mentioned it to my OB nurse, she told me I should be drinking 100 ounces of water a day. I upped my water intake and the cramps have gone away.

  • I agree with PP. When you are dehydrated you can get a lot of aches and cramps that can cause a lot of confusion. Especially if you have diarrhea you are probably low on electrolytes in your body as well. I would suggest to increase your water intake and probably drink a Gatorade to help with your electrolyte balance.
  • Contractions also feel like menstrual cramps; the doctor/NP/nurses should ask if they are rhythmic/come and go. Dehydration can also lead to contractions.

Please talk your OB about getting proper help with your diet. Consuming 1000 calories a day is terrible for even a non-pregnant woman; I'm seriously concerned about you and your baby's health and wouldn't be surprised if this was somehow linked.

Yes. Eat more protein, more calories & drink more water. Your body is telling you things. Listen.
