Tylenol??

I read that Tylenol may be linked to cause adhd later on. I'm 14 weeks and have been taking Tylenol every day for about a week because of these horribl headaches I've been getting. Anyone else hear this or have taken Tylenol with previous pregnancies and have everything turn out ok?

I have not heard this. But my dr did tell me that if I have a headache for several days it's actually okay to take Advil if Tylenol isn't working and I limit it (like take two for the headache and not do it again for several weeks etc).

From what I've read, it sounds like one or two studies has indicated that acetaminophen use might be correlated with a higher risk of ADHD... but correlation is not causation. Further, the correlation was strongest when women used acetaminophen for like 6 weeks or more; you're still quite a ways away from that. I mean, I'm not a doctor or anything, but I suspect you and baby will be just fine; like any medication, don't take it if you don't feel like you need it, but if a headache is making it tough to function, do what you have to do.

Have you tried maybe having a little caffeine to try to get rid of the headache? Sometimes that helps. Maybe a half a cup of coffee or half a cup of soda?

I just went to my doctor today and was diagnosed with Strep Throat. But, one of my main concerns was the amount of Tylenol I have been taking to help with the throat pain and fevers. He reassured me that Tylenol is safe for pregnancy & baby, and just not to exceed the recommended dose per day ( 3,000 mg/24 hr).

Nope never heard this before. I took it around 13 weeks though under my doctors orders since I had a fever.

I also read this. I've been cautious to not take any medication unless absolutely necessary.
So far, for headaches, I've been able to take a nap or an icepack to the head top relieve some pain. Maybe that will work?

I just try to do everything in moderation. You can't change taking Tylenol in the past, but if it makes you feel better try other things before you take it next time (rest, heating pad, massage, etc.). However sometimes the physical pain or anxiety outweighs not taking it.

Because of it, I am trying to limit my tylenol intake and am looking into essential oils for me during pregnancy/nursing and for the baby.

Ruling pain meds out entirely is just not possible, so as long as you take it in moderation, I think you'll be fine.

Thank u ladies. its just when in at work my head hurts so bad I end up giving in and taking the Tylenol then I feel so bad! ☹

Thank you for positing this! I read about these studies a few weeks ago when the migraines really started kicking in. I can't just take a nap when I'm at work when they come on. My shifts are 10-12 hours everyday, and sometimes the migraines just make it unbearable to function. Every time I popped a Tylenol I felt a pang of guilt about what I could potentially be doing to the baby. Since reading the study I really try to only take it when I absolutely need it.

I asked this exact question to my midwife today! I've had headaches almost daily for the past few weeks and stopped taking Tylenol because of the reports it's linked to ADHD. My midwife said because Tylenol has been taken by pregnant women for so long that any sort of study of childhood illness/disability is going to link back to Tylenol because most pregnant women take it at some point in their pregnancy. With that in mind, she said she'd take it if she were pregnant and needed pain relief.

I'm still trying other things besides medications like a little caffeine and drinking an absurd amount of water, but once I start seeing the headache orbs setting in I'm going to take the Tylenol.

Tylenol does nothing for me. I had my doctor write a prescription for me and it works wonders. He told me it's basically caffeine pills but it works! No more headaches

I second this. This is my go-to. I take one or two Tylenol with some soda or coffee to give the Tylenol an extra kick. Since you're worried about taking Tylenol too frequently, you could try alternating caffeine and Tylenol.

Any article that starts with "What if it’s acetaminophen, NOT vaccines?" makes me immediately question everything about it. I'm not sure I even want to read the rest.

Also, the above article uses this study (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/24905542/) for some of its grounds saying Tylenol causes cell death. The study is about overdose, not regular use. You know what else causes death? Overdosing on water. Literally. People have died from too much water. Ugh. I hate articles like this

Okay last comment, because I'm about to lose my mind. The study that she claims that links autism and Tylenol being givn after MMR (vs being given Advil), is "the results of a parent survey". A PARENT SURVEY. are you effing kidding me? Do you know how convinced most of my clients in 2008 were that their kids has regressive autism? And then showed me home videos of their kids at 12 months clearly displaying self stimulatory behaviors indicative of it? I'm sorry but when it comes to parent self reports and autism, the results are HIGHLY inaccurate and unreliable.
