I was extremely high risk in my last pregnancy 1:15 and although very much wanted our pregnancy wasn't planned as after our previous experience my anxiety was extremely high as we did not have any other testing done. Anyone else in the same boat? X
Although I am not in the same boat I can tell you that a child with Down Syndrome is one of the most amazing syndromes ever, even if I get hounded for saying that. My mother had my little sister- who has Down Syndrome- when she was 38. She was told that she was high risk for it and every doctor actually tried to talk her into terminating the pregnancy. My mom did not take their advice and now has a wonderful, intelligent, extremely loving and beautiful little girl who has Down Syndrome. And let me tell you, there is nothing slow or ignorant about these children! There is also a huge support group through Babies Can't Wait that is full of loving people. I just have so much love for children that are truly not average. It makes them even more special! Although I am sure it can be intimidating and nerve wrecking that having a child that is not in the social norm, sometimes it can be even better. I'm saying all of this from the bottom of my heart and I mean it all in the most positive way. Whatever you decide to do is your choice and whatever your fears are all if us are here to support you, but just know that nothing would be put into your life that you couldn't handle.
Thanks hun. It's not so much the syndrome it's the additional possible medical issues. I have been lucky to work with children with lots of different needs xx thanks hun x
Re: Previous high risk for Down syndrome...will it happen again?
