December 2015 Moms

So in love and excited!

I got to see LO's face today on an ultrasound (I'm 32 weeks) and I am just so excited to meet my little man!  Can't believe there are only 8 more weeks before my life changes forever!  Who else is feeling the glow??  :)

If you can afford it, the 3D/4D ultra sounds are amazing!!! They are pricy but man is it awesome to see them! And now babies are super active you get it see him/her move around and hiccup!

My little boy was being a trouble maker when I did mine, and they didn't get very many good shots, so they are bringing me back tomorrow to try again!!

This. If you can pay for it go for the 3D/4D. We were able to get one with DS and it was amazing watching his face and all the little expressions.

I'm really eager for Bun's growth scan at 37 weeks. Just 2 more weeks and I get to see her and how she's doing in there.
  • @grkgdss00 I don't know how far along you are, but there is a good chance you doctor will order a growth scan closer to your due date to see how baby is measuring and to check their position. Hang in there! I hadn't seen him since 20 weeks and my growth scan is tomorrow, can't wait!

  • I haven't seen baby since 20 weeks and while I'd love to the only reason I would get to from here on out is if there was some concern about something (my OB doesn't do any growth checks or standard ultrasounds after 20 weeks) ... so next time I see him will be in person. Glad you got that fun moment today :) 8 weeks will go by so fast!
  • @vesperlove how do they know baby's position if they don't do a late pregnancy scan?

I'm "high risk" so we had one last week to check her out and I didn't get to see her face :( I'm not doing the 3d/4d cause I have had so many US already that I don't want to overexpose her (crazy and next to impossible I know but still crazy mom thing). And it sucked cause the tech was so nice she tried but baby girl wouldn't turn her face to look at us LOL! Not sure yet but that might have been our last one since it looks like we might induce in three weeks!!! Omg!!

Many doctors don't rely on U/Ses to tell baby's position. There are other ways by feeling stomach/baby and tracking where movements, heartbeat, etc, are located.

According to my OB, my baby is currently head down with his back along my right side. My strongest/most frequent movement is consistently up on my left side by my ribs (almost guaranteed to be his feet/kicks), I have a hard bulge on my upper right side but it cannot be moved back and forth (this tells the doc it's the baby's butt instead of head because head could be tilted at the neck), heartbeat has been located toward my right hip and that's where I also feel hiccups, and smaller movements are down toward my left hip which would be baby's hands.

My doc says that unless any of the external exams make him feel baby might be anything other than head down, he doesn't do any additional scans. If any of his observations make him feel baby might be breech or transverse or in any other non-ideal position then he would do a late scan but other than that, no reason to.

This is the way it works with my OB. If there's a reason to suspect your dates may be off she'll do dating scan. Later if there's a suspected issue there may be another scan. Otherwise all you get is the anatomy scan unless you pay for an elective.

I'm only getting a growth scan this time because DS had shoulder dystocia. She took detailed notes on measurements once he was born and will use them to decide how she wants to proceed with Bun (possibly early induction or c-section).
  • @vesperlove @mizuiro007 interesting! I was told I would have an ultrasound at my 36 week appointment (which is next week) but then when the doctor used the tape measure she said she wanted to send me for a growth scan as well. I know that one isn't routine but assumed a scan to determine position was.

  • @jenbstevens It was explained to me that for my OB at least they don't like doing scans for position when they can find that out through other means as well as that baby can still flip after a scan.
