I can take nothing for this cold/flu. It's day two, any suggestions! Throat pain sinus pain runny nose and body aches!

Re: Cold and flu, help!

  • Lots of fluids, juice, ect. Get sleep and a hot shower. Otherwise not sure what else would help...

  • Please don't confuse a cold with a flu. That just lets people think flu shots aren't that important. (Personal pet peeve). You can take any Tylenol product and lots of allergy medicines too! Benadryl and I think Claritin is okay.
Yah.... if you had the flu, you'd know it....

My OB said Tylenol only. No allergy medications. I've been neti potting and trying to not die myself, since Tylenol is a joke.
  • A cold and the flu are two different things. If you think you have the flu, I'd contact my doctor. If you have a cold and want some medical relief, I'd contact my doctor for suggestions too.

Non-medical suggestions: stay extra hydrated, rest, warm shower, sinus massage from DH works wonders for me as well.

  • I have been taking Robitussin and cough drops, my midwife cleared them. Not that they have been helping much. Maybe they will help you! Warm Herbal tea helps temporarily also.
  • Knottie I'm like 99.99% Benadryl is allowed unless there's been a recent change. About the Advil, the general consensus is no Advil, but my doc said it it's an extreme like several days with no relief that it's fine really rarely. In fact in high order multiple pregnancies Drs prestige ibuprofen (Advil) in the third trimester! There's a risk/benefit ratio I guess.

Totally buying benadryl tomorrow morning then...
  • I called ob for my last cold and they cleared Tylenol cold, clairitin, benedryl, and cough drops. They said a bunch of stuff but I just chose the few things I thought could help.

  • I was on the verge of a cold last week and took Sudafed. It was cleared by my OB and really helped my symptoms. It has the same ingredients as Tylenol Sinus products and Mucinex - both of which are on my safe list from my doc.
  • Here's a good chart to use for medications that are safe during pregnancy: https://www.babycenter.com/0_chart-over-the-counter-medicine-during-pregnancy_1486462.bc

I think the Bump has one, too.
  • I'm at the tail end of a two week cold and other than Tylenol I just whined my way through it. I used a neti pot with herbal salt for cold/flu twice a day and it seemed to help a little but not as perfectly as my beloved DayQuil would have!

  • I have a cold right now as well (it is definitely not the flu) and my OB-approved cold medications include: acetaminophen (Tylenol if you're looking for a brand name), Sudafed (only brand name) and cough suppressants containing dextromethorphan.
  • Day three and I've just been taking vitiam c, I've been to sick to read the responses but I'm gettin up and going to the pharmacy now !
  • Benadryl is definitely ok. I take Zyrtec for my seasonal allergies and was told that I could also take Benadryl for some crazy itching I was having. I didn't, but I got the ok for it from the perinatology department. From what I've read, 1st gen allergy meds (the ones that make you drowsy) are best.
  • I ended up with Sudafed after fiancé and I waited to see if it would run its course over night. It didn't, but my fever broke so he wasn't going to get me any medicine. I came unglued and begged him to go. I also got a smart water and chicken noodle soup. (I guess he felt bad?)

Ive been dealing with what I thought was a cold for 3 weeks now. Cold medicines did nothing, so now Im trying allergy medicine. Bought claritin and benadryl yesterday. Ive never had allergies before, so I guessing its because of being pregnant. I am absolutely miserable at this point. Im giving it a week and if nothing changes, Im going to the doctor. And I swear if ONE MORE PERSON asks me "got a cold huh? Got the sniffles huh?" Im going to scream!

Also I had a killer headache a few weeks ago, and since Tylenol is a joke and did nothing, I took ibuprofen which took care of it. I asked my dr about it though, and she said ibuprofen is fine in the second trimester every once in a while. just not to take it very often, like PP mentioned. Only if nothing else provides relief.
