This is my first baby so i have a lot to learn but I'm just wondering when I should book my first doctors appointment to get a positive test and blood work from them. Thanks in advance!
For my first I went in to get a confirmation (it's just a urine test, basically the same thing as your home pregnancy test). I don't think I'm going to get it "officially" confirmed this time till my 8 week appointment.
Also I was expecting (I don't know why) that they were going to do blood work to confirm and they do not typically do that for low risk pregnancies. I don't think I had blood work till closer to 12 weeks maybe even later.
It depends on your situation but it is usually 8-10 weeks. I've got some concerns so I'll be going in in about 10 days (I'm 4w1d now) for an appt. If you've had issues with past pregnancies or have a health condition that might qualify you as high risk, they'll probably have you come in sooner. One thing is for certain, call your OB as soon as you can
I got my BFP this morning and I called the doctor first thing, they told me they wont see me before 8 weeks... which is not until mid November! I'm so anxious to have a Dr. confirm it, it seems surreal!
So I had my first doctor appointment this morning after getting my BFP last Friday! She didn't even do another urine test as she believed my five blazing positives lol. This Friday I'll go in for some blood work and then I will see her again the following week. She went over a lot of information with me and said my first ultrasound will be around 11 weeks (does that seem normal?). It wasn't exactly what I thought it would be but I'm happy to be going for blood work in a few days!
@EasterEggs with my 1st we had an ultrasound around that time but this time i wont have one until 20th week. My doctor told me a lot of women don't believe they're pregnant until they get an ultrasound and see it. My insurance doesn't cover that much on that 1st ultrasound so unless my doctor absolutely wants one i will be opting out.
I have the first appointment this Friday... I'll be 5 weeks exactly. I am being seen early due to two recent losses. I'm going to request an early ultrasound (which I'm almost 100% my OB will be happy to provide) due to the losses and wanting to be sure everything is going ok in there. My OB wants to do another D&C with biopsies if this pregnancy fails as well, so we will be monitoring it closely.

I would call your Dr to tell them you're pregnant, and they'll schedule you according to their policy.
I had my first appt this morning at 4wks +4 days. We did a urine confirmation of pregnancy, STD screening (that they do for everyone period), discussed the dos/donts, and answered any questions I had. Blood work and first u/s is at 8 wks.
With DD, I saw my OB at 5 1/2 weeks. He just ordered blood work to check hormone levels. I had my first "real" appointment at 7 1/2 weeks. He did an ultrasound then and on almost every visit. It was never an extra charge, just part of the standard appointment. Maybe that's the benefit of going to a practice that has their own ultrasound machines? I'm also AMA, so that's probably why I had the early blood work.
With this LO, I have different insurance and I haven't even chosen an OB yet because it was a recent switch. Hoping I can get the same level of care.
@bioteach84, I hear you! Mine is November 13th, and I said to my husband, what, I"m just supposed to be flying blind until then?! I have questions!! That's why these boards are so great! And I've downloaded the Ovia app which has a great list of dos & don'ts for foods & medicines... I feel like that will help until I can see a professional!
I am a first timer too. I called the ob/gyn today and they said I wouldn't be seen until 8-10 weeks. But then I had insurance complications so I had to switch ob/gyn and the new one said oh no you come in as soon as possible and now my appointment is Thursday 11/5... I'll be 6 weeks. I wish it was all consistent.
Just don't read through the "community" section of the Ovia app. I swear if I see one more "i haz a cold. wut meds can i tak?" or "my man farted n i kinduh wnted to thrw^. am i pg?" I may have a meltdown on whoever posted it.

Oh lawd, I have a headache from reading those "sentences" you posted. Noted: no Ovia community or will rage-punch someone.
First pregnancy for me. I am 4w4d; called my OB yesterday after 3 days of + tests. My first appointment (for confirmation) is 11/17. Then on 11/30 I have a 90 minute appointment to go over EVERYYYYYYTHING.
I was told usually first appt is 8-10 weeks, but you feel the need to be seen sooner then speak up and demand to be seen earlier. I'm going in next week (will be 5w 2d) since my last pregnancy was a miscarriage. If they don't do an ultrasound, then I've requested extra blood work. Most doctors want to ease your mind and worries.
I go to RE tomorrow for blood work. I got my BFP before I got to a new cycle to start clomid. Glad they are going to continue to follow me until transfer to OB. I love my OB, but don't think I want to deliver at the hospital he is affiliated with, so I think I need to find a new OB in the meantime.
I got my BFP on Saturday but had to wait until Monday to call for an appointment. Mine is on the 16th and I'm anxiously awaiting it! This is also my first and I have so many questions!
My first appointment isn't until November 27th! Ugh. That's so far.
My insurance is requiring that the first appointment includes an "orientation." That would have been very helpful for my first pregnancy, but now it just has me rolling my eyes a bit. Especially because they've told me to expect the whole appointment to take up to 3 hours! Not thrilled, considering I won't even see an OB, just the nursing staff. I may not even get to choose an OB at all, just see whoever is available.
I had my first doctors appointment yesterday. He sent me for blood work then wants me to go again in 4 days. He also told me to book a early ultra sound but the earliest I got in was November 18th. So I will be 8 weeks at that point. I am going back to my family doctor in 2 weeks and he is going to do a internal exam as well. He has also referred me to a labour and delivery doctor but he said I will be in his care for the first 3 months. I have no history of miscarriages I guess my doctor just likes to do everything which I am perfectly fine with!

My office does 8-9 weeks for confirmation/1st ultrasound. When I called last week there were limited options for dates/times.
