I get induced in two weeks with my very first baby! I was just wondering if any other moms out there could tell me what it's like to be induced, rather than naturally going into labor. Any information is appreciated
I'm in the UK and we do it a bit differently here to the US though. I was given a propess pessary which sits behind the cervix for 24 hours. The idea is it helps to ripen the cervix so it starts to naturally dilate. Then after 24 hours they try and break your waters so you go into labour more naturally. If they can't, you're given another propess pessary for a further 24 hours and repeat the process. They only use pitocin as a last resort if after breaking your waters your contractions aren't coming or strong enough.
My induction took from 12 noon on Monday to 3.30 am on Wednesday when he was born but I was only in active labour for maybe 1.5-2 hours. It was pretty boring and pain free for the majority of the time.
I was induced with my first and it wasn't bad. I was given pitocin in the early am and just kept progressing and at noon my water broke and started full labor and had her at 5 pm that night. It was simple.
