if your baby had to the the frenum clipped who did it? ENT, dentist, pediatrician, oral surgeon? Did you have it done with a laser? Did you have a lip tie too? Did it make a difference? How old was your baby when you had it done?
We had LOs lip and tongue done with a laser by a dentist at 6 weeks. She didn't have a painful latch so I didn't feel much of a difference. She wasn't gaining weight and I think that played a part. She is gaining weight like a champ now!
His was clipped by the ENT with scissors and some topical anesthetic when LO was 4 weeks old. His latch was always good so I didn't notice a difference, but he started to be able to pull more milk out per feeding, so it helped with that. No lip tie.
ENT, dentist, pediatrician, oral surgeon? ENT Did you have it done with a laser? Laser Did you have a lip tie too? Yes, had that corrected as well. Did it make a difference? YES! Breastfeeding was painful as all get-out and improved once he had it done. How old was your baby when you had it done? 5 weeks.
I suspected one with my older son and it never got corrected. It was painful to nurse him for MONTHS. I held on and nursed him to 6 months, then I just couldn't bear it anymore.

ENT, laser, 8 weeks. Also had a lip tie. It was an amazing difference. Before the procedure LO wouldn't latch without a nipple shield, and even then couldn't get him to latch very often. The day after the procedure he latched without the shield. I went from basically EP to EBF in a week. We're very fortunate to live in Oregon and saw Dr. Ghaheri, who specializes in these issues. He has a lot of good information on his website (drghaheri.com) and if you follow him on Facebook he posts interesting articles.

Done by a pediatric ENT and clipped with scissors. The doctor gave him a shot of novacaine first. He does have a lip tie also, but it doesn't effect his breastfeeding plus the pediatrician said when he's walking he will likely trip and bust it anyway. He had it clipped one day before his 11 week birthday. I would have done it sooner, but it was a whole mess of waiting for appointments and weighted feeds etc. if I have another kid, I will definitely get it checked and fixed sooner. For me it was an immediate difference in his latch. It was still painful, but I wasn't curling my toes every time he latched. He had been eating evey 1-1.5 hours (he was taking in half of what a baby his age should be so he was eating twice as often). I was also supplementing to keep his weight up. Within days he stretched out his feedings to every 3 hours and we stopped supplementing. Now it doesn't hurt at all when he latches. We had some retraining to do since he'd been eating that way for almost 11 weeks. 15 weeks and still going strong! I'm 100% sure without getting his tongue tie fixed that I would have stopped.
An ENT did ours, he used scissors, mine has a lip tie that needs clipped as well but honestly it was awful seeing how much pain he was in, so I canceled my appointment that was scheduled to fix the lip tie. Getting his tongue tie clipped made a huge difference because I was having alot of issues with his latching while breastfeeding. He was 1 month old when we got his fixed.
Pediatrician, with scissors, yes she has a lip tie but it's just cosmetic and there is no need to correct at this time, she always had a good latch but this helped with her suction immediately and she was able to pull much more milk out. She had it clipped at her 2 month appointment, it was very fast and I felt like she was more annoyed that the nurse had to hold her head still and the dr. Had his fingers in her mouth, he advised me to breastfeed immediately because the sugar in breastmilk helps the bleeding to stop and sure enough it did! She cried for a second but was over it just as fast. The next week or so I focus on making sure she was latched and sucking correctly and her weight gain improved.
Little guy had his frenulum clipped by pediatrician hours after he was born, with scissors. Latch was ok after. But I was able to hear him swallow afterwards.
(Reclipping was suggested by a lactation consultant to improve latch)
At his 1 month check up it was reclipped by pediatrician with scissors. I noticed a difference instantly and at that moment BF because super easy and painless. I also noticed he could stick his tongue out more as a (hunger cue) and his yawning seemed to improve as well.
Our baby was initially clipped by a ent with scissors when he was a week old and then we had the laser procedure done when he was about a month old... We met with a lactation consultant as we were having a lot of issues breastfeeding and She pointed out the tongue tie. Luckily the next day was our first pediatrician visit. The pediatrician recommended we see the ent since our baby was loosing a lot of weight and having problems breastfeeding. After getting it clipped, he still couldn't latch even with a nipple shield. We ended up going to a pediatric dentist (dr marcus in Baltimore, specializes in babies with tongue and lip ties) who advised the tongue wasn't fully clipped and our baby was also lip tied. We had the laser procedure performed to both the tongue and the lip. It was very quick and noticed a huge difference in feedings. My son started to gain weight like crazy and was able to breastfeed without any issues. The worst part was the after care stretches we had to do...but it was totally worth it. Good luck! also, there's a Facebook page for tongue tied babies that provided a ton of information!
