  If you're looking ahead, don't forget to ask for shoes. Good sneakers can be pricier than you think for kids.

  Clothes are the biggest thing because with my first I found I was gifted a lot of newborn and 0-3 months clothes and then I didn't have much in the bigger sizes. Books are always great and I know a lot of people love the kick and play piano for their LOs.

  Summer stuff is good to think of too, and people can get it on clearance right now. I think of what they'll need before their birthday. I'm asking for a high chair, some footwear, a muddy buddy for spring (awesome one piece suit, a necessity if you think you'll be outside much in the spring) and contributions to her education fund. My family proved with DD1 that they are incapable of picking out toys, so I tell them we have tons and not to buy any
