3 hour glucose test

I failed my 1 hour test & was told to fast & come back in for a 3 hour test. I'm 17 weeks and still have really bad morning sickness. Unfortunately I threw up that drink 30mins after ingesting it. Now I have to go back a 3rd time. If my appt is at 8am what time will I be done? Bc they didn't give me the drink til 9am last time after drawing blood?

Seriously how are we supposed to know? I imagine it varies from practice to practice. Can't you call your OB office and ask them. Also, you posted this twice.

  • When I did my three hour test last time, I went in, they drew blood, I drank the drink, then they drew blood after one, two, and three hours. So I guess it just depends how fast they get you in there and if there are any delays. Good luck!

  • 17 weeks seems awfully early for a glucose test... mine are never until 26-28 weeks. I'd ask why you're being tested so early and if there's a reason you can't wait until later in the pregnancy when hopefully you're feeling better. And unfortunately none of us can predict the future (that I know of) so we have no way of telling you how long your appointment will take. If you're taking the 3 hr test, definitely call ahead and explain your concerns so that hopefully they can get you that drink promptly at 8.

  • That's really early for any glucose test.

  • My OB tests early if you are AMA. Gestational diabetes can start earlier in us older gals. Not saying OP is, just might be why they tested early. I had mine a month ago and I'm 20 weeks today.
  • Mine also offered an early glucose test, and said that earlier tests are becoming more common. Since I have had two previous pregnancies without gestational diabetes, they didn't push it though. I hate the glucose test.
  • I tested early because I am heavier and had a large baby last pregnancy. Its a way to catch GD early. I'm sure they have a reason to test early, its not just for funsies. If you failed because you threw it up last time maybe ask if they have an alternative thing you can do. Some will let you eat a certain meal or drink chocolate milk.. My OB makes the appointment for a certain time but always tells me to let the front office know I'm here for that so they can get me started immediately. They will draw blood, have you drink (try it cold, slow and with a straw) then draw blood at 1-2-3 hours.
