Breastmilk in bottles

So I'm a ftm and I haven't started pumping yet but I want to asap. LO is 5 weeks and I want to introduce a bottle. Do you hear up the milk (we have a warmer) or do your babies prefer it room temp?

Re: Breastmilk in bottles

  • Since the milk I use is always refrigerated (or frozen and thawed in the refrigerator) we always heat it up first.
    *Siggy Warning*

  • Mine takes pumped milk cold straight from the fridge. Sometimes we'll run the bottle under warm water for 30-60 seconds to get the chill out, but if we're out and about he'll take it cold directly from our freezer pack. We've done this from the start so he's never had a super warm bottle and doesn't mind which makes it super convenient for us! No warmer needed :)
  • My guy also takes a bm bottle straight out of the fridge. I would say try it cold first, since it's much more convenient, and then warm it if necessary. Its so nice to just pull a bottle oUT of the cooler to feed him, when we are our and about.
  • Mine takes it cold too. Or I'll just feed him from the bottle I just pumped if I'm feeling super lazy :)

This. We don't want her to be dependent on a warm bottle, so we've never given her one (except for running it under hot water at the sink). If she doesn't know warm is an option, then she can't get fussy for it :):)
  • Thanks for the advice!
  • Mine refused room temp bottle so we warmed it to get her to take it. Now that she's adjusted to the bottle she doesn't mind if it isn't warmed.
  • I would start with it warm, so it is more like the milk she gets when nursing. Then you can see if she'll take it at room temp or cold.

  • Mine prefers room temp or we'll heat the refrigerated bottle I n mug of hot water to room temp. He wasn't a fan of cold milk.
  • Mine will take it cold or warmed up which is very convenient!
  • When I was pumping my little guy never had a problem taking it cold. I would just see what works best for you
  • Careful you're not warming it too much- this can kill the nutrients and then it kinda defeats the purpose of going through all the hardwork of breastmilk storage/pumping!

I place my frozen/stored bm in a bowl of warm water for ab 10min. ;)
  • My lo will take it however he's not particular about it. He just loves milk!
