First iui

So I had my ultrasound today and will be going in for my iui on saturday. Im trying really hard to be positive but also not let my hopes get too high incase it doesn't workout on the first try.

How was your experience? What is something to expect?

Has anyone done the gender specification? Or asked for twins? My doctor mentioned it at one of our first consultations. My husband is older than me and his time is really getting thin aND already has low count. But we really want 2 kids, preferably 1 of each. No so much worried about the gender though. So we're trying to knock it out all in one go....

    I don't have experience with an IUI yet, but just wanted to wish you good luck! I'm kind of hoping for twins too. Though, since I'm currently in the 2ww with only 1 mature follicle, let me state for the record I will be abundantly happy with one ! Haha...don't want to do anything to alter my chances ;)
    Married to DH 10/6/12
    TTC since 5/14
    Unexplained with (controlled) hypothyroidism and suspected ovulatory dysfunction (but, I do ovulate on my own)
    Clomid 50 mg 3/15 (unmonitored) - BFN
    Clomid 50 mg + metformin 4/15 (unmonitored) - BFN 
    First RE appt. 5/15; Natural cycle 5/15 monitored with 2 mature follicles and Pregnyl Trigger (full dose) + prometrium - BFN
    6/15 HSG - clear tubes & normal uterus; great PCT test results
    TI - 100 mg Clomid + prometrium (AM & PM) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 6-7/15 (monitored) --> no additional response and thinned lining - BFN
    TI - Injectables (follistim + Gonal-F, Ganirelix, & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 9/15 --> 3-7 mature follicles (3 definites and 4+ that could have matured due to trigger) @ O -->BFN + 5 large cysts
    BC for 2 weeks due to cysts
    TI - Injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & full dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 10/15 --> 1 mature follicle --> BFN 
    TI - Last attempt at injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + crinone (AM only) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 11/15 --> 3-4 mature follicles --> BFP!! 11/27/15 @ 13dpo (shockingly, actually waited until then to test)

    Beta #1 @ 16dpo (11/30/15) = 1,075
    Beta #2 @ 19dpo (12/3/15) = 3,150
    One baby: Saw heartbeat @ 5w5d (114 bpm; baby measuring 2.3mm)

    To me IUI is just like getting a pap smear.  I do cramp a little afterwards.  My RE has us BD the night of and day after IUI and it is uncomfortable.  I've never asked about gender specification.  It's always possible with twins especially if you have more than one mature follicle.  Good luck on your IUI

    I was told that IUI w/Clomid has an 8% chance of twins (whereas "normal" occurrence is 4%).  I would characterize IUI as a bad pap smear--I have had one so far, on my second round of Clomid now.  I definitely found it hard to balance managing expectations with staying positive.  Good luck!

    I don't have experience to share, but will be trying IUI for the first time next month so I just wanted to say good luck and I look forward to hearing how things go for you!!
    ***BFP & Child Warning***

    Me: 34, DH: 38 ~ TTC since 2014
    IUI #1-3 (Nov 2015, Feb 2016, May 2016) = BFNs
    IVF ER (July 2016) = 7 PGS normal embryos
    FET #1 (Sept 2016) = BFP! DD born 5/30/17
    FET #2 (April 2019) = BFN
    FET #3 (July 2019) = BFP! DS born 3/27/20

    Thanks. I will keep you guys updated. Hoping for a winner on the first try, but not trying to get my hopes up too high or my heartbroken, but in the same note also trying to stay positive about the whole situation.

    We're trying to decide if this cycle is right for IUI. It's my third with femara and ovudril, so I'm leaning towards it.

    How did you decide?

    My RE decided for us.  We had 4 failed TI with meds and he said the next step was IUI

    Hi @ShesMermaid. I had two failed IUIs and just started my first IVF cycle. My first IUI, I was on 50 mg of clomid, the second 100mg. Each time, I was only able to produce one egg. No symptoms during my first IUI cycle, second I had bad cramps and headaches from the Clomid.

    The actual IUI didn't hurt. A little more uncomfortable than a Pap smear and a little cramping afterwards. Used crinone everyday during the 2ww. Are you going to be on crinone or some kind of progesterone supplement?

    @shesmermaid good luck with this cycle! I know how nerve racking these IUI's are - my fingers are crossed for you!!
    Married May 2009, TTC since November 2012 (Together since 2006 ish - had my eyes on him since 2001)
    Me: 32 (33 in May), Him: 37 (January)

    DX: Me: High Prolactin, Possible Autoimmune Disease Issues, though RE not concerned (?)  New RE has a plan!!
           Him: Minor Varicocele, low morphology, slightly low count

    History:

    Beta 5/9/2016 BFP!!
    Embryo transfer scheduled for April 28, 2016 and beta test May 9, 2016 (day after Mother's Day!)
    Transfer Meds include: Lupron Depot (4/1), Minivelle Patch (every 3rd day), Estradiol (3x daily), Amoxicillin, Progesterone in Oil, Methylprednisonlone. Lovenox and baby asprin added after transfer. 

    3/22/16 - Sono Saline ultrasound cyst to be aspirated on 4/1/16 if not cleared up by 3/29 US - It cleared on its own
    Retrieval 3/4/16 - 26 eggs retrieved, 23 mature, 20 fertilized, 14 embryos currently frozen
    Starting IVF Stims on +/- Feb 22, 2016
    HSG scheduled for 1-26-16 - All clear "beautiful uterus" (though inverted)

    Switched clinics and now prepping for IVF in February / March

    Fourth IUI -  CD3-7 100 Clomid w/ Ovidrel Trigger - December, 2015 - BFN
    Third IUI -  CD3-7 100 Clomid w/ Ovidrel Trigger - November, 2015 - BFN
    Second IUI - CD3-7 100 Clomid w/ Ovidrel Trigger - September, 2015 - BFN
    Started Prolactin Medication October 15 - Levels quickly regulated to with in normal range
    First IUI - CD3-7 100 Clomid w/ Ovidrel Trigger - August, 2015 - BFN
    After no BFPs (ever) First RE/Urologist visit in Feb 2015
    HSG w/ OB, 2014 = all clear
    Trying to conceive since November 2012
