Infertility

Intro(loss and children mentioned)

Hi ladies. I've been lurking for some time, recently joined and felt like it was time to introduce myself.
I am 37, dh turns 52 tomorrow. He has twins from his first marriage, conceived via IUI from the same RE we are seeing. They are 18, so it's been awhile and we have different issues than he did with his ex-wife. My dh has low count, anti sperm antibodies and morphology issues. I had ovulatory issues early in our ttc journey(we have been ttc off and on the last 13 yrs) but my gyno discovered I had elevated prolactin and I take parlodel to lower it and it allowed me to have regular, ovulatory cycles.
All of that took place after I did 3 cycles of Clomid through my previous ob/gyn and a miscarriage my first cycle of Clomid. Oh, if only I knew back then what I know now. My previous Dr didn't monitor me, didn't care to look at my bbt charts, etc. My beta for my pregnancy was a 35 but they never told me the number, just it was positive, even though they said they thought it was a chemical pregnancy. I changed Dr's after my last Clomid cycle, 2 months after my miscarriage, when he told me I should be happy to be a step mom and ttc wasn't going to work for us.
Long story short, my insurance coverage finally covered IF and we decided to give it another go, even though we haven't seriously ttc'd in years. We did 3 Clomid, trigger and IUI cycles in June, Aug and Sept, all bfn. My insurance required them before moving onto ivf. We are currently waiting until Jan to pick up where we left off, dh and I are both retail store managers, so this time of year is so busy for us and multiple IF appointments with little notice just won't work out.
Sorry to ramble, looking for support, ways to make my break work for me in terms of getting healthier and ways to keep from obsessing. I am already invested in so many of your stories from lurking and hope I can help others with my experiences and advice.

  • Stepmomttcmy1 Welcome and I hope your journey on the IF board is a short stay. You have quite a few months before your next cycle, definitely a good time to focus on getting healthier. What exactly are your health goals, I'm asking for a few different reasons, but mainly because so many women have such great stores to share, your response may spark some great advice/feedback.

  • Hi, sorry for your loss. I'm waiting to start IVF too, I've been feeling frustrated that I have to wait now but your point about using the time to get healthy is great. Best of luck to you.
  • Well, mostly I am just looking to shed some of the weight I gained during my IUI cycles this summer. Those progesterone supplements made me eat everything in sight.
I already take fish oil, multi vitamin, but d and co q 10, all started after our first RE appt this March. Not sure if I need anything else for me. Dh was taking fish oil, vitamin d and vitamin c since he has sperm issues. I found out during the middle of our last IUI cycle he wasn't taking his supplements daily. I am working on getting him back on them so he hopefully has a better semen sample next time.
I don't know where we stand with coverage for ivf in terms of my insurance since my plan has a lifetime max, meds aren't included since that's on my prescription plan, but I want to be ready and in a good place if we do get to try again.
After many years of IF and years of not trying, it's a lot to get back into treatments and all that it encompasses. I'm happy I found this group.
  • Good luck on your journey, I hope you are not here for long!!

  • Welcome and good luck.  It's overwhelming at times, but good for you using your break to get healthy.

I'm currently trying to lose a few pounds before starting IVF as well.  I've been doing lots of protein and veggies and lower carb, very few refined starches, no gluten for several months and have had great success but I'm now stuck and need to lose 9 more pounds, so I'm looking for ways to mix it up too!!  GOOD LUCK! :)
