Can we make a group decision about the symptoms questions??

I know I might come across a little stabby but we need to make a decision on the constant questions about symptoms such as cramping, puking, farting and general feeling like crap. It is starting to feel a little like Groundhog day here. Can we agree to make the symptoms thread a sticky so that we can just have it in one place as a resource for those who want to dip in and out, check on what is normal and not have to post individual threads all the way through?

Note that I do understand that discussing symptoms and fears is a huge part of the support we need on this board but eventually someone is going to ask and no one will answer as they will be sick of it. So maybe having the one place will be able to help those who need it and prevent repetition. Also if someone has something serious and if there is bleeding or anything that is different.

Thoughts? Anyone wanna say a yay or nay? Keep as is or make a sticky symptoms thread?

Edited because my brain is fried... A symptom!

  • What about something similar to the daily TWW or TWO threads or maybe weekly?
  • Yes yes yes. And I vote daily.

  • Yes! I think it's a great idea. It's already getting repetitive.

Quite frankly I don't care where all the symptoms go. However, if they are all in one thread, I'm not going to Scroll through and read 7 pages of people's symptoms. I actually like the headers better because If I relate I'll open them and just continue to scroll by the ones I won't read.

But like I said. I don't really care. :-) whatever the majority wants is cool by me.

Eh, yeah. A recurring daily thread is probably better than a single sticky.

  • I suppose we could have 4 or so daily threads that change as the group progresses in pregnancy. Like the 4 most commonly posted about general categories and a misc. thread everyday. Ya know like
    • Cramps, Backaches, Spotting Friday
    • Nausea, vomiting, indigestion Friday
    • Bloating, it isn't a bump yet, weight gain Friday
    • Misc. symptoms Friday
That would at least cut down the number of individual threads but keep them grouped by general theme so people can find what they're having and read the thread they relate to.

Doesn't matter to me. I'm just throwing out an idea for consideration.

  • Right now we have the weekly thread but if we wanna do a daily thread I don't see anything wrong with that. I agree that the board is getting slammed. I also think that if you have a question vs a rant you should put *question* at the top of your post so that we know you need a response.
  • Daily thread seems to be the way. And good call because once we move on to different stages of the pregnancy we know the current thread is the most relevant rather than 50 pages.

I like this. Maybe we should lay out the "guidelines" (I guess, for lack of a better term). Maybe more like an info post and sticky that post. It can let newbies know that
1). We have a welcome thread so post there rather than start a new intro thread
2). We have a weekly symptoms thread so check it out before starting a symptom thread.
3). Put "question" in your title if it's an actual question.
4). (This should actually probably be #1). Use the search function to look for related topics before posting a new topic.

Not to make it to sound rule-y or strict but just info that the newbies probably want/need to know. That's my 2 cents.

  • @MillerMama13 I really like those ideas!

Weekly or daily? I agree that daily might make more sense because it is getting really annoying to have pages and pages in the Weekly Symptoms thread. And frankly, my symptoms are changing daily.

I agree with this. Whenever I have had questions or issues I found it easier to find one thread on the question instead of searching through pages and pages.
  • Also I think if there are too many 'rules' ppl won't be posting much. This is a forum for us to discuss and get support from each other. This is my 4th and I still have lots of questions/concerns and I find it reassuring if I see others are going through the same
  • Good news is most of this stuff will die out. People who post the daily symptoms will leave and be gone soon. A daily thread would be great until then though!

    --------QBF----------

I think daily for first tri since, like you said, symptoms can change daily and also people seem to have the most questions and worries at this time.
  • Agreed with what has been posted. A daily thread I think is best because while I don't want to read the same thread over and over I don't want to read through several pages. I also like the idea of lumping certain symptoms together.

A sticky thread that generally answers most questions is a great idea. I found it super helpful on the TTGP board when I was trying to learn the lay of the land. Agree we don't want to scare people off with it but should be a good reference for someone who doesn't really know otherwise.

I don't think of it as rules but more as an FYI. Not at all saying they can't start a new thread but saying "hey, just so you know...we already have a daily thread dedicated to *blank*"

When I first joined my BMB with number one and I'd post a new discussion and no one responded I'd feel pretty stupid once I realized someone already posted something very similar. I didn't know about the search function or the daily/weekly threads so I would have found something like an FYI post very helpful.
  • Totally agree. I'd rather see headings then pick what I want to read.

  • I say let ppl post what they want. It can't be monitored anyway. If ppl are really sick of the questions ppl won't answer and the questions will stop. Let them be, no point in being the posting police.
  • I'm absolutely on board with a daily thread. Otherwise you have chaos, everyone posting their own special thread, then anything interesting or important gets shoved down to page 2, 3, etc. Let's clean things up.
  • Daily is great. I was confused with the Week 7 symptoms post but I assume that was more a one off and not part of this discussion.

  • I think the daily thread is helping and is at least showing people what is common and not without them asking and hanging out there with no one answering because they are tired of the same thing cropping up. It isn't intended to police people. In fact I think it is kind of the opposite.

  • This board is actually quite slow... I can't believe when its been 24 hours since I last logged in and there are only a handful of new posts.  Do people really find this board as that cluttered? Or are we trying to avoid the clutter?

We are trying to avoid the clutter. Every day that I log in most of the new posts (if any) are symptom related. It would be nice to be able to scroll through the board and see something other than that. If people are always commenting on the multiple symptoms threads happening at once, everything else gets pushed to the bottom anyway.

I guess I don't see what the big deal is about having a daily thread for everyone to post on, as opposed to posting multiple threads about the same thing. Obviously not everyone will follow, but if we can direct them do the daily thread it might help at least a little bit. I'll be the first to say that the more new threads that get posted asking about various symptoms, the less likely I am to respond or share my experience.

I am not against a daily post either.  I don't really go in the daily post anyway :-)  Because I don't need company in misery right now.  I also don't' need to read about the "Am I pregnant?  I have no symptoms..."  Ha.  I will keep my food aversion and nauseous bloated self to myself right now!  I just need more gif parties in my life.

Agreed! Today was the first day I commented on it - didn't think people wanted to hear about my lack of symptoms anyway. I feel for all you ladies who are feeling miserable, I really do.

I will second the GIF parties! Maybe we need to throw one of those in every now and then to break up the day a bit ;)
  • Just started a Gif party!! We do need one!
