3rd Trimester

Baby Bump

I'm 27 weeks and 4 days pregnant with my first baby. Got bump measured by midwife for 1st time today and it measured 28 weeks. Does this mean I'm going to have a big baby?

Re: Baby Bump

  • I'm also a first time Mom, but a 3 time Aunt and I can say that there is no real way to determine the size of your baby.  They are guesses at best.
My sister was told, with all 3 of her babies, that they would be 8 or 9 lb babies and each ended up being 7 lbs and under.

That's put my mind at ease thanks x
  • Also, that measurement is only 3 days off. Even if these measurements were extremely reliable that's not a big enough difference.

  • Thanks kynbar 5 x
  • That's only a difference of three days, unless I am misreading. Being told you are measuring weeks ahead is a potential issue, but not three days. If your midwife is really concerned she could send you to a doctor for a growth scan, but otherwise I would assume it isn't a big deal.

  • To be fair even "growth scans" are notoriously off.

  • Great thanks ladies. First baby so very nervous but excited xx
  • I measured 3 weeks ahead with DD and was told to prepare for a big baby. Well DD was born at 40w3d and weighed a nice normal 7lbs 9oz. This one is also measuring 3 weeks ahead and my midwife isn't worried. I think a few days wont make a huge difference :)
