July 2016 Moms

Holy Cow! Is this real?!?!

I got my BFP last Thursday. This is my 1st pregnancy, and I am already terrified. DH and I have been married for a little bit over a year, but together for 9. Since it is my first pregnancy I have no clue how this whole due date thing works, based on ovulation (I was doing the clear blue fertility monitor, so at least based on when it said peak) I would be due July 2nd, based on LMP it would by July 4th, but when I called the Dr. to make the appointment the receptionist said July 7th. Personally, I want to go with July 2nd because it puts me a little further along. It has not really hit me yet that this is real!! I am very excited for everyone and cannot wait to see all of the changes in the next 9 months!!

Re: Holy Cow! Is this real?!?!

  • Congrats and welcome! I have heard over and over that the EDD is a guesstimate anyway so don't sweat it too much.

  • Welcome and Congratulations!!!! I am 99% sure that it is based off of the first day of your last period.  So I'm about 4 weeks pregnant according to the Dr... because my last period I had was 4 weeks ago.  Even though I didn't ovulate till probably the 9th... they count me as 4 weeks.  Now if you don't have regular periods then it gets confusing... but yeah... you would go off of the first day of your last period. Hope that helped and wasn't too confusing.  Oh and there are all kinds of EDD (estimated due date) predictors out there that could help nail down a date.

    DD: 7/5/16

  • Congratulations! I know what you mean about it feeling surreal! Like Singingmama10 said, I think the standard is to go by your LMP but it's just a best guess and will change as you have ultrasounds and whatnot.
  • Yay!! Congrats! I am a first time mom as well and so nervous/excited!!! It is SUPER surreal :) looking forward to the next 9 months as well!!!

  • Welcome and congrats! The EDD applications typically use the first day of your last menstrual period to calculate your due date. They assume a 28 day cycle so if your cycle is different (longer/shorter) the EDD calculations could be off. In the end 5 days sooner or later won't matter to you. Actually, the later you go for your first appointment the more likely you are to be able to hear the heartbeat which helps the nerves a bit. The first trimester is scary no matter how many pregnancies you have had. Trust that your body knows what to do and be thankful for every day you are pregnant.

    #2 EDD: 6/29/2016, C Section: 6/22/2016

  • Congrats! 2 days on the EDD won't make any difference. It's an estimate, not exactly when you baby will be ready to be born. Giving birth 3 full weeks before the EDD is considered full-term and perfectly healthy. Your doctor may adjust your EDD after your first ultrasound when they can see how developed the baby is.
  • Congrats!! And this. My mantra is something like this.
Trust that your body knows what to do and be thankful for every day you are pregnant.

  • Welcome and congratulations!
  • I'm in the same boat, it only took us 1 month! I thought it would take much longer! If you have a smart phone download the Ovia Pregnancy App, it has already proved itself useful and it's free. It tells you a due date, and gives you updates without having to make it public!
