Jealous Dog? Please Help!

Since we have had the LO home my dog has been acting out.. Hes pooped near everything baby! Pooped in front of the rocker, by his crib, has even knocked over the trash to pull diapers out and rip them open of the gross baby poop to be all around the house!

He hasnt tried to do anything to LO, but is very upset that we dont let him sleep in the room with us anymore and hates that we put up a baby gate to certain part of the house as well. But do you guys have any suggestions on how to get him settled?? We have done the same things that we've done in the past to make sure he doesnt feel left out (take him out during the day, walk him, play with him when we can....etc) but he still has this "hate" towards LO.. (he's a chihuahua BTW).

Re: Jealous Dog? Please Help!

  • My chihuahua ripped open my sons dirty diaper last night too. She's been more clingy, she is forever trying to still be on my lap while trying to feed baby. I haven't blocked her off from part of the house though. She also has a blanket that smells like baby !
  • Loading the player...
  • Maybe i need to incorporate baby things around him? maybe ill try that... hmm
  • Did you prepare your dog leading up to babys arrival?
  • I just caught my cat peeing on the baby play mat. I need help too!!!! DH is not going to be impressed :((
  • You need to introduce them to each other and not neglect the pet. Preparation before baby would have helped. We have three dogs. They have been banned from nursery for about 3 months now, haven't been allowed up on the sofa or to sleep in our bedroom and haven't been allowed on the sofa for about a month. We also installed a baby gate which keeps them in the kitchen, but they can still see us in the living room. This way they hopefully won't associate the changes with baby and be alright when he gets here. Pets are likely to play up because they are moving down in the pack with baby coming in above them.
  • As you know, dogs and cats do a ton via scent. Take a baby blanket the baby has used and rub it on your cat/dog. Rub it on their faces. Repeat this several times. We did this when we introduced the baby to out two cats. They accept him as one of their own. Our one cat still isn't crazy about the baby but she accepted him. The other cat, Tiger, loves our lo. He leads you into the room when he is fussy.
  • Read this book - https://www.amazon.com/Tell-Your-Dog-Youre-Pregnant/dp/148296161X. . You should have done this prep with dog before baby because now your dog is acting out and associating these new changes with the baby which can cause negative behavior and feelings. It's not too late though. Using scents like the pp said and reading this book will help.
