Starting Clomid without a period

Hi all,

Sorry I've been MIA, I was on a work trip & then in a wedding out of town. Anyways...so my cycle is a little out of whack since my CP. This past cycle I didn't O & it doesn't look like AF is coming anytime soon (I'm day 33 right now). My RE gave me a higher dose of Clomid & said to pick a day & call it "day 3" & to start my Clomid. Has anyone done this before? Did AF end up coming during any part of your Clomid? I'm just afraid AF will come when I start it which would mess up the timing. I need to ask my RE these questions but can't til Monday. Thanks ladies!

    I wouldn't start taking clomid on a whim and just name the day "day 3". That seems very strange to me! I was told that if AF didn't show then they would prescribe provera for a bleed first. I'm not sure how effective clomid would be if you just picked a day and started

    I have heard of other women taking a round like you are describing but not sure how it worked out for them. I've only started clomid after af started (naturally or provera induced).

    Yes, the other 3 rounds I did I had a provera induced AF or it came on its own. My RE reassured me this was an option but I got a little nervous. I'm supposed to talk to her tomorrow before I just start so I can get some questions answered. It just seemed odd to me! Thanks for your input ☺️

    Although most RE's induce a period with provera, it's really not necessary to have a period to start stimming if your lining and AFC are in order.  One of my IF besties was anovulatory and 'picked a day 3'.    I get it though, it must feel kind of weird to just randomly  "pick a day".


    Married for 7 years, TTC for 4 years
    dx:  Diminished Ovarian Reserve
    2 Clomid IUI's + 4 injectable IUI's= 5 BFNs and 1 mc

    Thanks @goldenkeys! It does seem weird & I did a little research, and I think you're right. I'll get answers tomorrow from my RE but was very curious :)

    I took Provera to get my period and I've only been spotting since Thursday. I just got my full blown period today but my doctor had me count Saturday as day 3 so I started the Clomid and took day 5 of 7 today. Clomid is so confusing bc now I don't think/know if it will work this month and there are only so many months to use it.. :/ Edited to fix a mistake
