Re: 2cm dilated, 95% effaced, ..35wks

  • With my first, I was in the hospital at 29 weeks with full blown preterm labor. They finally got it stopped and I was on procardia. Still in the hospital at least once a week for contractions. I was 100% effaced and 2cm from 32 weeks. Stopped procardia at 36 weeks and didn't have her until the day before my due date. All the doctors told me I'd go into labor and all that but there's no way to know. Baby will come when they're ready. Also I might add that I had a failed induction at 38 weeks and she still waited 2 weeks to come. Only when you're both ready, will baby come. Don't stress.

  • Not gonna lie, I scrolled to your questions at the end.

You may want to do some searching on the bump in general, to read stories about babies who came early @ 35w.

No one, not even your doctor, knows when you'll go into labor. You can walk around at 3cm dilated for weeks. You can be that dilated and need to be induced. Note there are several threads about dilation where this is discussed.

These sound like questions you should have asked your doctor, if your OB doesn't know exactly when you will go into labor, how in thr world would we know?
As you would see with a quick Google search a baby born at 35 weeks will likely need some nicu time, and may not have developed eating reflexes, but will very likely go on to be a healthy child with no significant long term issues.

  • Best of luck to you & your LO. Labor is one of those unpredictable things that you just have to wait for. It could be days or weeks. The large majority of babies do just fine at 35 weeks and beyond. T&P!

  • If you're a FTM, then that means nothing. My doctor told me yesterday that most FTMs completely efface and drop weeks beforehand. As PPs have stated, dilation means nothing. I'm kind of in the same boat as you; 2.5cm dilated, 70% effaced, and baby has dropped all the way. In my case it's semi-significant because I am a STM which means it is more likely that these numbers actually mean something. I'm 36w1d and my doctor predicted I'd have her within the next week or so but of course that's just a prediction based on her experiences. Also, my SO and his sister were born at 35w and he needed a few days in NICU and she didn't need any. My sister was also born at 35w and her lungs were majorly underdeveloped. She was in NICU for 3 or 4 months and had to have a heart monitor hooked up to her until she was 1. So it really depends on baby!

  • Dirty delete? If I posted it, I think I'm entitled to delete it. As I appreciate all the helpful feedback, I simply deleted the post bc I realized I was worrying myself over something that's completely out of my hands and its best to stop looking for answers, googling, overthinking, ect. and just continue to have my faith in God's will and stop stressing over my situation. Was surely not a dirty delete or deleted to offend anyone who gave me positive and supportive feedback.
  • Im 36 weeks and the last time they checked me i was 70% effaced and not dilated that was at 35 weeks.
