Anyone over 35?

I just turned 35 and all of the sudden it's do you want these 4 thousand extra blood tests...geese this is my second one and I feel like I am starting all over with anxiety and worry. Everything on ultrasound looks normal, anyone else feel like you are ancient? I didn't feel like this way before I got pregnant!

Re: Anyone over 35?

  • I'm 36, pregnant with number 2 and have not been made to feel that way at all. My OB offers NT scan and harmony test to all patients, no age requirements or restrictions. Sorry you feel this way. If it makes you feel better I am full of worry and don't have anyone causing me to feel that way. Purely self inflicted and it sucks.

  • <waives hand> 38 here and this is my 2nd time around in the OB / Maternal Fetal Medicine office as an advanced maternal age. Both times I've been told the increasing risk of abnormalities, complications, etc., the older I get and this time around I had to do a 1 hour glucose super early and I already did the 24 hour urine analysis that helps detect preeclampsia. I do feel old because most of my peers my age are already done having kids and they are surprised when they find out I'm still making my family.

  • I'm 35 and pregnant with my first. Most of the women in my social circle are having babies in their 30s, so I don't feel late to the party. I was very worried about possible chromosomal issues, but we just got tests back, and everything is low risk so far. Yay!
  • I turn 35 next month, but my OB knows that we're not interested in all the genetic blood testing. I only feel
old when I'm around college students and then I realize that I'm thankful to be old ;)

  • also 35 and pregnant with my first. haven't done any out of the ordinary tests yet but my ob has noted that anything we want is available to us via insurance due to my age. seems like a good spot to be in!

  • My due date is a couple days before my 35th birthday. I actually meet with my OB this week. It'll be interesting to see if I'm considered higher risk due to my age.

  • I'm pregnant with my first, just turned 39 this weekend. When I asked my OB about any special concerns "because of my age," he said, "I don't want to insult you, but you aren't that old." :) he also noted that over a third of his patients are over 35.

As a PP said, we can get insurance to pay for just about any extra testing we want. So far, so good...genetic screening shows very low risk for trisomies and my blood and urine test have been normal (Though I did have two early losses before this pregnancy).
  • A few days after my 41st birthday, I got my BFP... My fifth pregnancy, third baby. And this is what I hear in my head when I imagine making our official "we're pregnant" announcement... (Which probably explains why we haven't made it yet. lol)
  • Yep! I'm 38 and had my 2 boys before I was 35. It is a completely different party this time around with regards to the testing and increased worry. I went through all the testing rebelone discussed in my first tri (early glucose test, 24 hour urine, so much bloodwork, etc.). I've calmed down since getting the NIPT results and moving into second tri. I feel tired but not specifically "old." Most of my circle are either done, long done, or struggling to conceive so it's a mixed bag.

  • I forgot to mention that most of the pregnancy/birth announcements made by my peers these days are for their grand babies...
  • I'm 35 and so far my doctor has been even more relaxed this go around than with my first 2 years ago. She's pretty relaxed anyway though. I'm the one who constantly flags my age. She just laughs and says that she wishes she were 35 again.

  • I'm 36 and pregnant with our first. I don't really feel that old, but I'm happy that all the tests are covered by our insurances because I'm older. I had an early loss in March and I'm still stressed before each appointment that something won't be right this time. I'm still waiting on my panorama test results because the first time, my liver did too much of a good job cleaning my blood and they couldn't find anything related to the baby.

That's freaking me out. I keep seeing graduation and grandbaby posts from girls I went to high school with, too...
  • I am so grateful that I am not alone in the 35 and up category! I never feel old typically but just all the differences between our first ( I was 30) and now...wowza. I love my 30s! I am nearing week 14, so I know some of the worry will subside. Prayers to all my fellow thirty-something mommas! We can do this!
  • I am 40 and will be 41 when this one is born ! This is my 4th and was a bit of a surprise! I already have 2 grandchildren!
  • I'm 35 pregnant for the very first time. I'm beyond nervous and worried. At each visit I ask my doctor about all types of tests. He tries to calm my nerves but I want answers.
  • I'm 35 but haven't been made to feel old by my doctor. I was very worried after a loss in March but I'm 16 weeks now and everything is looking good so far! If I have a second child I will be even older so who knows how I'll feel then!

  • I'm 40 and expecting twins. When I had my daughter three years ago my midwife wasn't worried about my age at all. I never heard AMA. I had a loss at17 wks last April. Now I've found out all about genetic testing, nt scans. Things totally foreign until this pregnancy. Good news is the twins have checked out well so far. Yeah! Keep a good thought, try not tho let all those tests get your nerves up. Goodness knows it is dificult. Well wishes.
  • Decided to search "over 35" before I started a new thread and was very pleased to find you all here. I am 35 and pregnant with my first. I think I was more worried how long or if I could get pregnant after taking so much time to get my life in order. I am pleased with the opportunity to get more checkups and being able to have the NT covered by insurance. It has helped calm my fears and concerns. I am also lucky that I live in a metropolitan area where Advanced Maternal Age is not that uncommon. I am just thankful that they don't call it "geriatric pregnancy" anymore. #:-S
  • I'm 38 and pregnant with my first.  It's nice to find you ladies here.  After reading responses on some of the other boards, I was starting to feel really old around this crowd!

  • My first born graduates the month after this baby is due...
