Extreme dry skin

Does anybody have any suggestions for extremely dry skin. Even before I was pregnant my skin has always been dry, but my usual face wash and moisturizer routine kept it manageable. However, this week my skin has a few red, flaky and painful dry spots all over my face. My usual skin stuff is not working anymore. Does anyone have any recommendations? I already use hypoallergenic and non-fragrant lotions/creams/face washes. I also have been doing a moisturizing face mask at least once a week and that works for that day and then it's back to feeling like there is fire on my face.

Re: Extreme dry skin

  • Nivea is extremely moisturizing and amazing. I used it with DD bc I too had very dry skin. I used the kind in the jar.

  • Thank you! I will pick that up today!
  • aquaphor is what my derm recommended
  • Aquaphor or coconut oil have helped me.
  • Thanks ladies! I picked up Aquaphor this morning. I can't wait to use it tonight! It's pretty greasy so I wouldn't be able to wear it under makeup. And I absolutely need the makeup because the red, flaky, puffy skin makes me look like I have some sort of infectious disease. Not pretty, especially when I have to deal with clients all day. I'm hoping this will do the trick. I'm tired of my face feeling like fire!!!
  • What are you using to wash your face with? I've always had dry skin and learned through trial and error that cleanser is just as important as lotion to keep my face hydrated. Even mild formula Cerave and Neutrogena cleansers dry me out.

I use Fresh products on my face and love them - I use the Soy Facial Cleanser and Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream which you can get at Sephora. They're not cheap, but not super expensive and for me it is worth the expense. I can't say enough great things about these products. The cleanser is mild enough to keep your skin hydrated but still does a great job keeping it clear and the lotion is luxurious without being overly greasy and you only need to use a little bit (i use a pea-sized amount, literally).

If chapped lips are also plaguing you, I recommend Bag Balm. It is a product that was initially created to treat cow udders but it does wonders on lips! I literally could not live without it, I use it every day instead of lip gloss and love it. It is better than most chapsticks and lip balms because there is no peppermint, menthol, or other drying ingredients. In the winter I use it on my hands too because they get super dry in the cold weather.
  • I use the Simple brand products and the face lotion is great. I wear it under my makeup all the time.
