Back in the hospital

We just got discharged yesterday afternoon only to find out LO tested too high for bilirubin so he got readmitted for phototherapy. I know it's pretty common and that he will be ok but I've been in tears all day. For one, it's so hard to not be able to hold him when I want. Thank goodness he hasn't been too fussy under those lights (until now). And second, I just really wanted to be home. Only get my hubby home with us on weekends starting Monday and this ruined our alone time. Some told me just to go home he's in good hands. I know that, but I would just start bawling anytime I thought about leaving my baby here. Hubby stayed with and that helps. Be a sleepless night not having good meds for my c section, but it hurt my heart more to leave. Even going to target quick made me cry :(

Re: Back in the hospital

  • I'm sorry! I hope your little one gets better soon. We keep having to test our little ones bilirubin levels too. She has been poked so many times now! It's hard to watch. Sending you all good vibes.

  • I'm sorry, I somewhat can relate. My first had that and it just broke my heart being within feet of her not being able to hold or comfort. She hated the mask. Hang in there, and use your voice to comfort baby.
  • We checked back into the hospital 4 days PP for high bilirubin levels (19) with DS two years ago. I literally cried all night long while he cried and tried to get the goggles off. It was horrible. Watching him get blood drawn was terrible, too! However, he was in great hands for a very treatable condition. I was so happy to go home when it was all over.

I hope your LO's numbers fall quickly and you can go home!! Hang in there, mama. I feel for you.

  • I feel for you. I ALMOST had to leave my baby for the same reason and cried over it. It somehow resolved and he was able to go home with me but I can certainly relate to not wanting to leave. Hopefully baby will be back home soon!
  • It could be a lot worse. My baby was there 3 weeks and while it was hard I think of all the even earlier babies (under 32 weeks) that aren't as lucky to be going home after a few weeks and some that have surgeries on the daily. It was really sad to walk by some of those rooms. At least jaundice isn't a serious issue and baby will be home in no time. Keep your head up!
  • Yes I know it could be worse and very thankful it wasn't. my heart went out to all the littles that were in NICU for worse reasons. It's still frustrating none the less, but we are home now and doing well.

Thanks for an update! High bilirubin levels can be very serious. Enjoy your home time!!!
