PP sex, can you even imagine?

If this has been discussed already forgive me but today I was my own worst enemy looking up how long it takes to heal before having sex again. I know at least 6 weeks or until the dr gives the Ok, but i saw many comments saying if you had tearing and stitches, which I did, that it can take several months and still be painful......ugh are you kidding me? I just want to feel human again and imagine a day where hubby and I can enjoy sex once again but just the thought makes me cringe thinking my body will never heal and be ready.

I'm 2 weeks pp and can barely get around my house because the stitches came out my first day home and they can't re-stitch my second degree tear. So 6 weeks seems like there is no way my body could bounce back that fast.

Is anyone else wondering when that day will come? Or am I alone in this?

Re: PP sex, can you even imagine?

  • I'm with you on this. I haven't had the issue you have with stitches coming out already and I'm getting around pretty well at 1 wk pp, but I am definitely looking forward to having a normal sex life again and really hope it's not longer than 6 weeks.

  • I am with you! I had a second degree tear as well, my stitches are definitely still in there and I'm getting around pretty well but idk if it's watching my husband being a dad and taking care of our LO but I sure wish I was able to be intimate with him. Has anyone else felt a crazy increase in sex drive?
  • I had a second degree tear 2.5 years ago and unfortunately sex has never been the same for me. I could have sex pain free by 6-8 months PP, but there are some times and some positions that still irritate that sensitive area. However, when I finally talked to my OB about it, he said this is NOT the norm and gave me estrogen cream to use regularly in that area. I didn't use it because we were TTC at the time and I didn't want anything to hinder the process, but talk to your OB if you have pain down the road!

  • I 100% feel you. I didn't have the issues of my stitches coming out but I also had a 2nd degree tear. I'm 2 weeks pp today and i'm just now getting to the point where I'm not completely terrified to take a poo. The thought of having sex in just 4 more weeks scares me :-SS
  • My doctor said 4 weeks. So at 5 and a half weeks yesterday my hubby couldn't wait any longer. It hurt. Go slow. Then when i peed after it burned. I had a nearly 2nd degree tear so not bad. Not sore after but I will be waiting a bit til next time!
  • Just wanted to say there is hope! With my first I had second degree tear and lots of stitches. We dtd the night I was cleared at my 6 weeks check and it was awesome, I was very nervous but it felt great and no different for either of us :) I know it's not the case for everyone but just wanted to share a positive experience!

@jburrell13 YES! I feel the same way. I know my body is nowhere near ready for that yet, and I won't even try it at least until my doc gives us the green light, but if there was ever a time when I would LOVE to be intimiate with him more than ever, now would be it. I think it's a mixture of watching him be such a great father, plus the crazy hormones, no longer having a giant belly and swollen ankles, focusing so much energy on LO at all hours of the day and night, etc. Not sure if anyone else is this way, but I also find myself missing him so much during the day when he is at work. I think it's because I'm home now rather than at work myself, and I wish he had gotten more time off from his job to spend with me and LO over the past two weeks, so that could be part of it too.

I totally agree it has to be a mix of it all, I'm excited for the 6 weeks to be over with, hopefully everything is good to go!!!!
  • I truthfully can't wait. I know it's going to hurt but maybe a glass or two of wine first will help loosen me up. Hormons must be raging!

Having healed completely after baby #1 two years ago, I can promise things will get back to normal. Might take longer than 6 weeks though, and my advice is to use lots of lube and keep your expectations low the first few times! ;)

This. It hurt for me several times (we started back around 6-7 weeks pp), but it does get better and you will get back to normal! I also recommend wine :)

  • My midwife advised lube if you are breastfeeding as all moisture in your body is going towards making milk so things might be a little dry. I'm 6 weeks PP today, but waiting until Tuesday when I get a new IUD. I had superficial tearing and a quick recovery so it should be fine! I would be the one person to get pregnant six weeks after having a baby so I'm just going to play it safe :)
  • I'm 2 weeks PP and my midwife gave me the go ahead. Not in any rush to go just because she said so, but comfortable knowing I can. I had no tearing or stitches so I was lucky
  • The thought of sex makes me want to die! I'm all up for pleasing the hubs but this Momas downstairs is closed for business for awhile!
