Did you have an epidural or fluids for any other reason? I didn't swell with my first pregnancy but couldn't wear shoes for like a week after delivery because of fluid retention from the iv... It was crazy but I sweated and peed all the time the first few days and it subsided fairly quickly.
The same thing happened to me. I had zero swelling during pregnacy but sometime around day 3 PP my feet and ankles were huge! The last couple days have gotten better but I have also been a bit more active (walking). I am currently 11 days PP.
I am pretty sure the fluids they gave me during delivery went straight to my ankles. Three days later it has gone down significantly, but still not completely gone.
I had three days worth of fluids and pitocin. The nurse and lactation consultant told me that pitocin will cause a huge fluid shift for you and the best thing to do is drink green tea or cranberry juice. One day of drinking green tea and my feet and ankles have dramatically decreased
Yep. I had forgotten about this since my first. With all of the sweating and peeing you will do, it will go away. Keep drinking plenty of fluids and keep moving. My nurse said it can take up to two weeks to go away, but typically earlier.
If you have headaches or spotty vision, please call your doctor. It is possible to have BP issues after the baby is born, even if you didn't have them before.
Yes.. I ended in c section and they pumped the fluids pretty hard. They said that was the reason for the extra swelling. Just continue to keep hydrated and limit salt intake. Mine has gotten significantly better in the last couple days.
It's very rare but you can have preeclampsia after the baby is born. I didn't realize it until my face and hands and feet started swelling. I had a couple headaches and a coupled days of blurred vision. By the time i thought to get it checked out they were ready to admit me because my BP was so high. Luckily the bp meds and diuretic worked wonders and a few days into treatment i was fine. I had an uneventful pregnancy and a normal birth. And it was definitely a scary experience.
Also if you are taking Motrin or Advil for pain, it retains fluids. If you were hooked up to an if at all, they probably pumped you with fluids. I had a c section and while I was still in my heels up until delivery day with no swelling, I could hardly get any shoes on after delivery. I just stopped taking Advil after 10 days and the swelling has finally gone away!
My entire legs were swollen. It was scary. They felt like tires that were overly filled with air. I think it was from the uterus. But it went back to normal after a few days.
