So i introduced myself ages ago and have been involved from Time to time but am generally pretty quiet. Just getting the feel of the board. But this morning I had blood when I wiped. It was red with a couple of strings but quickly tapered off. And nothing since. Im PGAL, had a MC at 7 weeks before my DD. Im freaking out. I hope its just a false alarm, and just a SCH. I'm 10 weeks today. But ladies, i need your thoughts please. Its long weekend and I cant see my MW till Tuesday (sunday here atm) where i hope she can get a scan sorted. Im scared.

Update: Thank you to everyone who provided support. I had my 12w scan today and everything is great! No reason for the bleed was detected so just one of those things.

  • If heavy red bleeding happens, I would suggest going to the ER for a quick scan or see if you can see a doctor to give you some peace of mind asap. I'm sorry this is happening to you! Good luck! Keep us posted!

  • I wouldn't go to the ER unless you have heavy bleeding or a lot of pain. I've heard of too many people having bad exerpeinces.

Does your MW have an emergency line to call?

Prayers that everything is fine. Spotting does happen to lots of wen who go on to have healthy pregnancies. Try not to worry too much, especially if you don't see anymore blood.

  • I had red blood a few times when I wiped right at 9 weeks. It scared the crap out of me. I called my OB and they said if there's no cramping and it tapers off quickly (which it did) not to worry. I had an ultrasound 2 days later and baby was fine. Just a weird bleed. I guess it's pretty common.
  • Thank you @SGPhotography thats really reassuring and is exactly what happened - tapered off really quickly, and not even a spec for the last 6 hrs.

@lalala2004 ill see my MW on Tuesday (work with her) and can call her directly but it feels pointless because I know there iant anything that can be done. Even an US wont happen before Tuesday, because of where we live (rurally).

I just have to rest and try to think positive. Thank you so much all for being supportive.

  • That is exactly what happened to me at around nine weeks. It ended up being a small tear in the placenta that should heal itself and so far, baby was fine. Try not to worry (ridiculous, I know) and hang in there!

  • So sorry you're going through that scare! I actually had the same thing happen last night. Almost same situation. I'm currently 9 weeks and am also pgal. I had some spotting around 6/7 weeks but have had 2 good u/s since and no more spotting since. Last night it started with light colored spotting then went to bright red in the middle of the night. It was such a scary sight.
Knock on wood, I haven't had any spotting today and it feels like I still have my ms.
I was able to get ahold of the on call OB who didn't seem too concerned. He said as long as I'm not having pain and as long as the bleeding doesn't pick up everything should be ok. I have my next u/s on Monday and I'm so anxious for it!
I'm Feeling a little better hearing others had similar experiences around this week and everything was ok!
  • Thoughts and prayers to you! I've had short, red bleeding with both of my pregnancies from SCH. Take it easy until you can see your midwife in case it's that, and try not to worry (I know easier said than done)! I know it can be very frightening to see red.
  • Sending positive thoughts your way! I hope all is well.
  • Did you have sex recently? I had the same thing a few weeks ago and my OB said it is normal to bleed or spot a day or even two after sex in the first trimester because your cervix is much more sensitive. I just had my first U/S and our little bean is fine! We didnt have sex for a few weeks just to make sure my cervix was healed but so far so good!

Sending positive vibes your way, mama!
  • Just sending good thoughts!

  • Same thing happened to me at 6 weeks and 8 weeks. Sex or bowel movements can bring it on. Otherwise, it just happens for no discernible reason at all.

Of course, always talk to your midwife/doctor, which it sounds like you are doing. But try not to stress too much. Many, many pregnant women go through this.
  • I started bleeding today, too. 8w1d. This is after a questionable ultrasound 2.5 weeks ago. We were finally supposed to have another ultrasound this Wednesday to find out whether the pregnancy was developing as it should be, but the OB on call said I should come in tomorrow because of the bleeding. He said about half of the time with bleeding it's normal, and of course sometimes it's not normal. My thoughts are with you and I really hope you get good news. I understand how scary it is.

  • Quick update: I think I may have overreacted. the bleeding stopped almost immediately and I have not had anything since, not even a spot. I'll see my MW tomorrow - was seeing her anyway - and might ask if one of the GP's can do a quick scan just to see if everything is looking ok. It really freaked me out because at my dating scan around 3 weeks ago, baby was measuring 5 days behind so thats been on my mind as well.

Thank you to everyone for your support and not making me feel like a complete idiot.

@kns1988 loving in solidarity. I'm a researcher and the more I read the better I feel. Apparently its really normal to bleed in pregnancy - another one of those things they don't tell you. with my DD that was a textbook pregnancy, no issues or anything at all (until delivery lol, but thats another story).

This one has been kicking my ass since day one, and is reminding me that all pregnancies are different.

  • @avidkeo Glad you're feeling better about everything. My first pregnancy was also way easier than this one has been, and I didn't have any bleeding or spotting that time, so when it happened this time around I freaked out a little bit. I hope everything goes well today!
  • Hi - Sorry, I've never posted anything before and I am hoping this helps...

I am currently 13 weeks with my second child, and boy what a difference it was from my first!

My first pregnancy with my daughter, who is a healthy 1 year and 2 months, I bled from the moment I had a positive pregnancy test until about 4 months. There was no explanation and no source of the bleeding they could find - I go a high risk OBGYN, but like you I had bleeding over a weekend and there was nothing they could do until the weekend was over.

As far as measuring behind, with my daughter I had sonograms every 1.5 weeks until I was 16 weeks, my daughter always measured 5 days behind until her 12 week when she jumped ahead to 13 weeks and completely moved her due date! My current pregnancy just did the same thing.

Like you my two pregnancies have been so different, I keep telling everyone it's like being pregnant for the first time again.

    Hope you're feeling better!

  • I had a similar experience around 6 weeks and did go to the ER (I'm a FTM and didn't know what to do--I had only found out I was pregnant the week before and I couldn't get an OB to agree to see me until 8 weeks). While it was a steep bill, I was able to see the heartbeat on US so that was nice! But they told me that they get about 5 women a day coming in with the same problem and it's almost always okay--they said that I shouldn't be concerned (or come back) unless I was bleeding through a pad in 2 hours (which never came close to happening). Glad to hear yours ended and fingers crossed it's all okay!
