Old injuries

I broke my foot when I was 14 and due to hospital mistakes I didn't have a cast on it. It never really healed properly and I have had some pain every now and again over the years from it but mostly if I have done an excessive amount of walking or something.
However the past couple of days I swear I could have broken it again with the pain I have in it. I can honestly barely walk sometimes! Has anyone else had any old, healed injuries flare up again?

Hmmm, yes I have extensive scaring from laperocopies and other abdominal procedures that are hurting me as the skin stretches.

I am not a medical professional but- for your pain I might go see a doctor, if you have an old break that did not heal properly and your baby is leaching calcium from your body I would be concerned about artheritis. Obviously it could just be from the hormones relaxing your joints too- but my mum had something very similar happen to her and it turned into arthritis, so just worth keeping an eye on. I don't mean to scare you, it could also be nothing to worry about.

  • To add to pp, it could also be due to increased weight on your foot and change of center of gravity. I severely sprained my knee and ankle in college playing rugby and both joints have been bothering me these past few weeks due to these reasons.

  • I feel your pain... I have a torn tendon in my left ankle that I told myself I would get surgically repaired before getting pregnant. Then I got antsy and got pregnant before I had the surgery! I can't use my motrin-based (whatever that ingredient is) topical painkiller on my foot and it hurts DAILY. I have to put ice on my foot to go to sleep and certainly can't run or be on my feet too much! Hope you get some relief for your foot soon,

@ashhsa I feel you on that one I had the same about 6 months before I got pregnant and i swear I have the weirdest looking belly button on the planet right now. My tiny scars are now so big :(
  • Thanks ladies I have just realised that I had a response!
I guess it is a combinations of added weight and less calcium etc.
My mum is a physiotherapist and has always said that it's likely I will end up with arthritis in that foot as I get older.
To be honest the pain has died down a lot now so I'm not sure if I possibly went over on the ankle slightly and aggravated it or something.
Thank you for the reassurance that I'm not alone though :D
  • yup. plantar faciitis and an old knee injury. According to my sister, a physical therapist, pregnant women have this happen often because of the increased relaxin softening up the tendons and ligaments that usually hold joints in place. This gives old injuries the opportunity to flare up again. it sucks.
