Gestational diabetes

It's been 2 weeks since I was diagnosed with GD. So far I have been controlling with diet and exercise. But I have been stressed from past few days and the blood glucose levels are coming way too high. I am eating the same. I am afraid , they will put me on insulin. Anyone else in the same situation ?

Re: Gestational diabetes

  • I'm not, but there was a really good discussion recently. I looked it up and it is on page 2 (in the app) and called "Positive for Gestational Diabetes." I clicked on it to see if anyone was sharing recipies (I'm trying to up my protein).

They had a great discussion going and maybe you can recognize some screen names. Good luck to you. My friend just had her little guy and she did very well with her GD. She kept a good journal and checked often. I was amazed how so many things affected her differently!

  • ^^I meant food journal but I cannot edit it.
  • Thanks I'll check that topic
  • I was diagnosed around 9 weeks ago. I have noticed that my numbers are affected by stress and have been keeping notes of stressful days.
I've been on bedtime insulin for about 3 weeks now. It was prescribed after about 4 days of high fasting numbers. The injection actually hurts less than pricking your finger once you get used to it.
  • There are all sorts of things that can make your numbers start to go haywire. As the PP mentioned, stress is a big one. Also if you aren't feeling well, running a fever, etc. the other thing to consider is that your hormones are still setting and levels increasing. It isn't uncommon for things to get harder to manage as the pregnancy goes on.

I am a type 2 diabetic and get sooooo frustrated that the things that worked even a month ago won't keep my numbers in check today. I am on insulin and with the "pen" style injections they have those days, the shot, truly, is less painful than the finger pricks. I understand not wanting to be on insulin, trust me I do, but t may be inevitable and not worth the stress if it can help you be regulated.

Good luck. Diabetes is such a bummer.
